I am thinking of buying AKG K1000. I am going to use them with my integrated amp Arcam A75+. I know it's not the best amp for K1000 but do you think it can work okay??

Thanks!

I think that you will find that you will like it better with tubes. Having said that, I think you'll be OK with the Arcam...especially if it has bass and treble controls. Solid state amps tend to be a bit bright with the K1000. Good luck.

it'll probably work okay, but may not be optimal. what if you can hear the tuner portion? or the hiss from switching diodes? what if the soundstage is narrow, or the bass is bloated, etc? and of course there is always the possibility that there is DC caps in the output path.

Who can possible say what your CDP/DVDP sound like through the Arcam?

you'll just have to try it and see if you can live with it. take your time saving the bucks for another amp should you decide to keep the K1000. I hope that you're not a bass head.

is there any way which you can borrow a set and audition it for a week?

elrod-tom: The amp has bass and treble controls.

wallijonn: I know it won't be optimal but maybe okay..I'm not a bass head but I want some bass. I mean I don't have too feel the bass against my head. K1000 are like speakers, huh? I don't have a chance to borrow them...

Well I recently listened to my K1000's through a lower model Rega integrated, 40W per channel. "Brimar" I think.

It sounded very impressive, although was missing the smooth midrange of my nOrh. So there is definitely the potential for solid-state amplification with the K1000's. The K1000's even sound great out of my vintage NAD 3020B.

I used my K1000 with an Arcam Alpha One, and it sounded great.

I listened to the K1000's today and I have to say I liked them even though I listened to them with not very good or fitting equipment. The amp was a 2 *200 watt rotel power amp and an old technics cd-player was used. The cables were crappy too!
So if I buy them I guess It can only get better.
They were never used before and not burned in. The pressure on my head was disturbing but I guess you can stretch them out a little bit but I couldn't because I was in a shop.

Will they get more comfy after a little use and stretch? is my big question.

They may stretch a little, but not a whole lot. You can also pull the back pad back about a half inch or so- this helps distribute the pressure points from the pad to different areas.
