I'm not sure if this is the right forum area to post this question, but since it involves amplification, here goes....

I'm interested in purchasing the JVC SU-DH1 Dolby Headphone Adaptor to use with my Optoma Movietime projector and DT 770 Pro 80's. I have a Corda HA-1 Mk II amp, and I was curious if the following combination would work without distorting the audio:

1. Connecting the projector's digital audio out with a Toslink to mini optical cable connected to the JVC SU-DH1.

2. Then, from the JVC SU-DH1's headphone out, I want to connect one of those cables with 3.5mm headphone plug on one end and RCA plugs on the other end (Y-adaptor?) to the Corda in order to amplify the
JVC SU-DH1.

So would this work okay? Sorry I'm being such a newb...

From the looks of it, the JVC already amplifies the signal. You could amplify it again, like you've already described, but amplifying it a second time could add distortion. Probably not enough distortion that you would notice it, though YMMV.

There is a volume switch and an attenuation switch that can be selected to 0dB or -8dB. It sounds to me that this box would work just fine. Like the previous post mentioned you want it to amplify the sound as little as possible since i'm sure it would not do as good a job as your Corda. If it were me I would set the output of the projector at 75% (assuming it has one). Then I would set the volume of the box so that it is effecting the level as little as possible (maybe 25%?). If you do end up setting this all up it would be interesting if you posted how it went and sounds.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the SU-DH1 arrived and works great with my Optoma Movietime projector's digital out and DT 770's. Thanks!

The reason I was so concerned about adding amplification from the Corda is that the Movietime has self-contained speakers that unfortunately do not become disabled when anything is plugged into the headphone out or digital out. To my relief, when I plugged the SU-DH1 to the projector, I was able to turn the projector's volume to zero and still only had to turn the SU-DH1's volume up a little to adequately amplify my DT 770's and also my DT 880's. I tested everything out with the 5.1 track from Talladega Nights, and I couldn't be happier with how the placement of sound effects stood out and appeared distinct from the dialogue and music soundtrack.
