JVC HAR-X700 and 900. Two of the best dynamics? Am I nuts?

I do plan on it but I'm enjoying the way they sound currently

Making an impedance adapter is as simple as butchering an extension cable (I had a junk one hanging around one night and got bored) and adding a resistor to each channel. I made sure to pair my resistors within .1 of an ohm.

I'm sure many of you know this, but all you new owners should consider the felt mod once you burn them in and get used to the sound. I am a true amateur when it comes to headphones, and sibilance really bugs me so I was skeptical -- but removing the felt noticeably improved the highs without making them harsh.

Just out of curiousity - what was the average retail price for the RX900 when this thread started? Not that I find them terribly expensive, but I do feel they could have been cheaper some time ago.
Thanks in advance!

I think they were $57 on Buy.com when I got mine.

I just got the rx700's today and they sound pretty good but I have a problem. There is too much clamping force, especially below my ears. It even hurts a little bit. What could I do to reduce the clamping force? I was thinking that maybe I could leave it on something that is slightly wider than my head for a day to stretch it out but I'm not sure if there are better ways or if that would even work.

For most pairs, they recommend bending the metal bit out bit my bit by hand. i.e. grabbing the sides of the wire going over the pad(?) and bend it back until you feel it stretch slightly and then test fit it. Repeat. It's what I did with my Grados and its what I constantly see being recommended here.

I stretched mine with a pillow while burning it with pink noise

Thanks Emooze, that definitely helped. I still need to adjust it some more so it puts less pressure below my ears, but for now I'm just going to let it burn in for a while. I think I also made it a bit asymmetrical so i need to work on that too.

the ur-40 has more detail and balanced sound. the rx700 has forward mids and mid bass, and much more of it than the ur40
