JVC HA-SZ2000/1000 Impressions Thread

I'm on repair number 3 for the swivel bit on my left side. JB weld did the job for a while but now have opted to fully lock the rotation in place. One that one side anyway.

The first repair I did though I fully dismantled the driver assembly to remove the wire all the way though in effort of trying other options to replace parts rather than repair. There wasn't anything I could find to use so when assembling back together/soldering I replaced the cable with a 3.5mm female connector. Now I have quick disconnect and can swap between long and short cables! Bonus.

Hello fellow bass lovers, I've been lurking this thread for a while and finally pulled the trigger on a pair of sz2k.

In the meantime I'd like to order 55x pads for them but I can't find them anywhere at a reasonable price. However there are some ~10$ replacement pads on ebay. Will they do the job?

Nothing for 10 dollars will be of any quality. Thats like the equivalent of putting 100 dollar street sedan tires on a Ferrari race car. And besides, I wouldn't trust Ebay now days, too many shady sellers, and corporate business men making decisions for their own bottom line to even care about the buyer on the bottom of the totem pole. Either get the 55x pads, or get some of those leather sheepskin pads. And also, for 10 dollars, there is no way those are leather or pleather, more then likely vinyl, the same crap they put on all the really cheap cans.

Came to these after the JVC HA-S500 which I loved. Aware they'd been described as a basshead headphone, which isn't my default preference, but ordered it more out of interest (the HA-SZ1000), with the whole carbon nanotubes (no idea what they are even though I now have two headphones with them!) and was intrigued by the dual driver aspect, just couldn't resist. Wasn't sure what my expectations were, bassy but possibly veiled I think. However my expectations have been exceeded and then some, I really like the sound. It may be my ears, but they don't sound veiled to me whatsoever, and they really seem to work for all sorts of music I'm trying them with. Just playing direct from various players for now, have tried through the Cayin N5, Shanling M2S and Ruizu A50. I haven't tried amplifying / equalising (I'll have to give it a shot), but I really think they're under appreciated overall for a general fun listen.

I guess you're right. I can't find 55x anywhere though. There is only one offer on ebay that will ship to EU but they're white. Are HM5 hybrid pads any good? Because I can buy them locally.

The hybrid Velour/Pleather HM5 pads are not what you want if you want the bass, they leak it away. I've tried every single HM5 pad they make except angled, and in order of best bass to worst, it's Sheepskin, Pleather, Hybrid, Velour. I use the Sheepskin on my SZ2000. Hope that helps.

OldDude, when my stock pleather pads begin to wear out from all the thousands of hours I am putting on them as my main listening device, I am planning on getting the Sheepskin pads, cause I know they are the best, thats why the cost the most. And thus I want them. lol

On comfort alone you're going to regret waiting so long, lol.

Thank you OldDude04, this is really helpful. I'll probably go with Sheepskin then. They are really expensive, especially the assymetrical variant, but I hope it'll be worth it.

I'll also need to buy an amp. After my sz2k arrive, I'll borrow FiiO E17K from my coworker and try them out. My another coworker uses Audinst HUD MX-2 so I'll try it too.

I have an E17k, and you might not like the it, it has a small 200mW @ 32ohm and the SZ series really likes the juice. The Audinst HUD-MX2 however should power your SZ2k to some real nice lows as it is 1.5W @ 32ohm. Just for reference as to how much juice the SZ series likes, I use an iFi Micro iDSD on turbo which is 4W @ 16ohm and they love the juice.

Hey dude, the normal people out there think were all on the juice, they maybe right, auditorial bliss juice HAHA! Ya I got the Fiio A3 amp, which is not even as good as the Fiio E12 amp. However, the A3 is doing a nice job and all, even I notice an upgrade would be an improvement. But I got a loan I am paying off right now so priority is that. But once the loan is paid off, I am think about getting the best amp I can get for under 200. Is there any recommendations on an amp that is under 200 but is better then the Fiio E12? The way my system is setup, I need the same connection ports that the Fiio A3 uses. So in other words, no RCA or XLR ports please.

Usually one needs to sell arm n leg for cans that come with sheepskin, so overall if 1/2k with sheeps , its still relatively a bargain. the hm5 sheeps feel premium with its memory foam. I was hoping some company would make xb1k pads in sheepskin. I might have to DIY in the future :D sheeeeepskin4daWin :D
