JVC HA-FXT90 Thread

So after playing around a little with these, I actually used the "Bass boost" feature on one of my media player and there was the bass (sub bass)..... it is not the seal or tips but it seems to be the EQ settings. I really don't like using any of these settings and usually listen to music with the settings flat.
Once I press bass boost, the bass is there a lot more, but sound becomes much muddier or muffled at the high end.... as I said before, It's definitely the sub bass that's lacking and this is shown by using a bass boost feature, but I don't want to lose the clarity and sparkle.

Any ideas anyone?

After listening to these for 6 hours straight, and then listening to my old Creatives, all I can say is "omg midsnhighs". I listen to a lot of melodic eletronica, and by god these have opened up so many of songs in ways I have never heard! I think these will be my "do all and be all" IEMs.

@blupblup: they may not offer the low end you're looking for, my friend, simple as that. For me personally, their low end is one of their strong points, as I don't find it the least bit lacking. My advice, because you don't wish to lose the clarity and sparkle, I'd recommend a Zo amp, which should bring you much closer to achieving the low end response you're after. The Zo amp is practically built for this purpose, and while I can only vouch for the original Zo (V1), the Zo seems to be the most practical solution in my eyes, opposed to finding a new in-ear altogether. Just my 2 cents.

Well I actually ordered the fiio e5 the other day, just a cheap amp to see whether it would improve when listening through quieter devices. I'll see how I get on anyway, thanks very much for the help.

Well as I've said in this thread, these headphones are by far the best I've ever heard, music sounds as sweet as I've heard it... they are amazing.... the only thing that's (for me) slightly lacking is the sub bass... that's all.
If 100% was everything as I wanted and perfect, I'd give these 85%.... everything else is there, the sound is spectacular and I really like the fit and the comfort and the rest of the sound.

Could just do with a bit more bass.

But I'll do the whole amp thing and see it all goes, certainly don't want to shell out for more headphones lol.

Although could sell these I guess.

We'll see

Cheers.

I feel like I must have a different set of 'phones than the rest of you. Again.

I find the bass to be too much, and have EQ'd it down a tad to help "neutralize" these 'phones. Look at the graph posted a few pages back to get an idea of what frequencies I dropped (but nowhere near offsetting the +dB the graph claims).

I also boosted the sub bass, but I found the result to sound most unnatural. Comparatively, when boosted the sub-bass of the GR07, it sounds amazing.

There's just something a bit odd about the bass on these 'phones. The mids and highs are brilliant, however. I guess this is why some of us have multiple IEM's: given any particular music, we can choose the right IEM for the job.

After weeks of mainly the FXT90 in my ear while on the move, I've recently switched back to the GR07. I come to realize that the GR07 has more bass than the FXT90 (especially sub-bass). Doesn't break my love for the JVC at all though. I'm finding that I don't miss the FXT90 when listening to the GR07, but I don't miss the GR07 when listening to the FXT90. They both fit various moods I'm in when on the go. At home, however, I prefer to listen to my 1964-Q, FA-011 and 7550 (in that order). The TF10 is fitting into that rotation too, but I must admit that I like the TF10 better connected to a DAC and amps like my E10/E9 combo than straight into an iPod. When I get a a custom cable for it I'll see if that improves my liking of the TF10. I won't have it reshelled though.

It's funny, when I bought these FXT90's, it was a toss-up between these and the GR07's and from what was being said in both the appreciation threads and other threads, the JVC's were better for bass and the GR07's  may have had a better overall reproduction.
I went for the JVC's as the bass tempted me a little more, but as I said (and I agree with you also) the sub bass is definitely lacking a little in these (JVC's) which I am a little disappointed with.

But that's cool, when I can afford it again, will go for some slightly more bass orientated 'phones and keep these for acoustic, strings, jazz etc... which all sound absolutely spot on through these, can't fault the mids and highs at all.

Just the sub a little.

Cheers

Something told me not to buy them. I'm glad I held off

It's good that you feel you made the correct decision for yourself, but it's worth stating that these are wonderful IEM's - especially for the price. I think we on HF make mountains out of mole hills on occasion, and certainly when keeping to the bigger picture, the FXT90 really shines.

I thought I would forget about buying the GR07 after getting the FXT90, but now I'm tempted to give the GR07 another look.
