what are some cheap tips that you recommend that will extend the treble? the medium size stock tips fit my ear perfectly (almost).

Hmm, I don't know about extending the treble. The stock are really good for that. You could try the "extra long single flange" from Meelectronics. It is only listed in the m11 tip package but if you email them, they will sell them in a 4 pack of your choice. If you try those, might as well try their "balanced double flange" too. I got a 4 pack of my choice for $5.

The FXT90 seems to have more sub bass and less mid bass with a deeper/better seal and is not too far off from the GR07.

I wonder what I'm doing wrong then?

I have a great seal, though the phones do not insert that deeply.

Are you using the stock tips? Worn down?

I'm trying to understand why I don't have the same experience as you and i2ehan.

As I say, I definitely have a great seal.

I may be less sensitive to the mid-bass than you, my friend. I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I've always used the stock tips, and worn them over the ear, which in my case provides a better seal, and added comfort. Not to mention, it could very well be that my tracks/genres don't bring out the mid-bass as much as yours, or the difference in source (mine being the FiiO E7 and iPad), etc.

I use the Jays silicone tips and I like their bass presentation better. They do fit a little deeper. Also over the ear gives a deeper fit versus down. Maybe ear canal geometry affects it as well?

Just got a new earphone that sounds like it could be a close relative to the FXT90.....although the bass is similar (thumpin, tight) the mids are a little more recessed, sparkle in the highs.....good clarity throughout though....Brainwavz M4!

After a week or so of burn-in, I am experiencing some serious sibilance/harshness and driver flex. The mids on these are very clear and timbre-rich, however, the lows are a little muddy/soft and the highs are on the shrill side.

Anyone else experience this? I haven't noticed much difference with burn-in. When I first got these, I assumed that the clarity in the midrange blew away everything I had heard thus far but I'm starting to realize that this comes at the expense of the highs and lows. FWIW, I like currently like my E30's much better. Do I need more burn-in?

Can't say I've ever heard the FXT90's that way.  Try different tips, maybe Sony hybrids, Shure e2c tips or Monster foam supertips.  The E30 and E10 sound very similar to each other and as good as my E10 is (and I like it a lot), it doesn't come close to sounding as good as the FXT90.

Edit: I would also say it's pretty strange to not have heard this at first but a week later to sound that way to you.

I have heard both E10 and E30 and the E30 is light years ahead of the E10. The E30 has deeper, better controlled bass and the mids and highs are clearer and smoother. I don't find them similar at all. I did notice the great mids and timbre/instrument detail/separation of the FXT90 right away out of the box. Unfortunately, the harshness of highs and sibilance at this point in the burn-stage are standing out too much for me. I feel the same way with the er-4s as well. These just might not be my preferred signature. I'm going to give them some more time. They have a lot pluses. Comfort, design, mids, soundstage, clarity, timbre, to name a few. Those glaring sss's and driver flex are not working for me at the moment, though.

FXT90 can be a little harsh if paired with a bright source, at least that's from my experience with the HiSound RoCoo-D Power edition.. Of course how much harshness can a person handle varies as well.

+1 on foam tips reducing sibilance. I did send mine back today because of the driver flex issue. I actually didn't know what driver flex was and wondered what that crunchy sound was as I put them in my ears. It didn't affect sound quality and only occurred when inserting them or adjusting them. Regardless I was still within the return window so thought I might as well try to get a flawless pair. Also I'm not sure what the long term effects of driver flex are. It can't be good for drivers to crunch up like that.

My source is an iPhone 4. I'm in no way saying these sound bad. But, for the money I'm not sure If I can't find something more suited to my preferences. Maybe I'm just a warm/lush, laid back highs kinda guy

. Still gonna burn-in a while longer though before I come to any conclusions.

If you decide the FXT90 isn't for you, based on that description you might want to check out the Fischer Audio Tandem.

Hi, have you tried the small stock tips as it actually solved most of the issues for me. Do note that I have small ear canals and YMMV.
Do give the small tips a try if you have not done so.
