Well, I think it's about time to share some additional impressions about the JVC FD02. I've been using them for a couple of weeks, with the micropore mod that @surfgeorge proposed, along with the Sony NW-WM1A and, occasionally, with a Xiaomi Mi A1 and Spotify. My musical preferences are varied: jazz, classical, electronic, progressive rock, 80's pop...it shines in every genre, specially on electronic music. I can't say if it surpasses the big TOTL but far surpass my Isine10, Ex800, Ibasso IT01 and even headphones like the DT1990. In my modest experience in the world of headphones, and specifically in IEMs, I had never enjoyed such a detailed, precise sound, such a meaty bass ... I am not the best person to talk about musical technicalities, but I'm absolutely sure, for it's price, is a miracle. It is supposed that today I should receive a balanced cable 4.4mm, I am willing to try it because it's a IEM that demands some power. Negative aspects? The insolation isn't the best in the world (maybe a Comply tips could improve it) and the outer part of the steel capsules can be easily scratched.

I can only thank again to @surfgeorge and @james444 the recommendation of this IEM.

From 0 to 10, I would say....i (the square root of -1)

I have just had it a couple of days. It should be one of my favorite mono dynamics

Good morning friends!

Last night I was testing the balanced cable. It is a simple and cheap Nicehck's from Aliexpress, very comfortable and flexible but I haven't noticed an improvement in the sound, but rather a certain worsening. @surfgeorge recommended me a cable from Japanese brand, but I think it's difficult to get to Europe without getting too expensive. I have never bought a good cable for IEMs and I don't t know to what extent I could improve the sound, since, as I see it, it's a controversial topic. What about the Sony Kimber cables and the Acoustune cables? I would be willing to spend a maximum of 150 € / 150 $.

Thank you all, have a great day!

I think not too much, but this afternoon I can ask my wife. I think that being a shallow insertion IEM, doesn't insolate as much as others.

@Mal Waldron Thanks for your impressions! I am glad you like them!:) I'll write more when I have time!
@cocolinho They leak very little when sealing properly. I let others listen to them, and when they sealed well I could hear almost nothing at moderate volumes and only little at high volumes in a quiet office.
The vent is pretty small, I guess that plays a big role here.

I had the same feedback from @Trebor who said he'd tried some cheap chinese cables that actually made the sound worse, but the Nobunaga Advanced improved the sound significantly.
I did not intend to spend ~€100 on a €180 IEM (Japanese local prices) but the e-earphones shop even had a number of cables on display for testing, so I tried them with my FD02 and I did hear an improvement immediately, most obvious in soundstage, but maybe also in detail.
So I bought it there in the shop and didn't look back. A downside of this copper cable is that it seems to corrode, at least mine got a kind of greyish shine on the conductors and trebor's also shows some color change.
A plus is the very soft and kind of heavy cable feels good and sits very securely.
I did buy Nobunaga MMCX plugs and have some pure silver headphone cable stock at home to make a cable myself. but not sure when I will find time...

Hi @surfgeorge.
I still have the modded FD01s (with different amounts cotton swab, for each of my 4 sets of nozzles). I continue to enjoy enjoy them immensely.

Regarding cables, at least to my ears, I don't hear any differences in sound, from any cables I've tried.

Couldn't it be that certain cables simply have different resistance? A cable with lower resistance would simply be providing greater power to the IEMs, at some specific output setting (vs a cable, with higher resistance, at that same setting). If that's true, then any perceived improvement in sound, when using a lower-resistance cable, can be approximated with a higher-resistance cable too (...by turning up the volume more).

Just describing my own highly-subjective experience.
Dimitri
