for the 16th annual waterfront blues festival here in portland. He was amazing (except for his "go the distance" song)! He claims that the "Go the Distance" song is the number one played song on Air Force One. It was a real treat to see Trout, I have never heard of him until now. I performed a search on this board and his name came up about three times.

I also saw Taj Mahal there, but his hawaiian crap was kind of a mix between some reggae and kid's music such as Raffi. Most people seemed turned off by it. He said he'd play some real blues, but he never did

People came to see some good blues, not Don Ho!

There was a considerable difference in how the crowd responded to Trout compared to Mahal, and Mahal was the headliner of the night.

Have you ever listened to Jan James?
She is excellent in bluesrock!

If you like Trout check her out. Especially her first three albums:
Last Train
Color of The Rose
Soul Desire

They're hard to find but I think there's a best of CD with songs from this three albums available in the US.

(I know the site from the recordcompany...I think...They sell those albums themself, but have to look for it first.

-edit-

Found it: http://www.mascot-provogue.com/procata.html)

I've seen him about 10 years ago in Parkpop den Haag.

Since then I love him and have some of his music.

I've seen Walter four or five times. The man is a monster on guitar. The first time I saw him was in a restaurant and we had a table about 10 feet from the stage. I'd recommend Living Everyday and Walter Trout Live at the Tampa Bay Blues Festival for a couple of cds to check out but he is best live.

I have 6-7 releases by him and I concur with Live Trout and Livin Every Day. I would also recommend Telling Stories released around 1994. The release is excellent but the recording quality isnt very good, hopefully they will remaster it. I have all my favorites of Walter burned to cd and its an awesome listen late at night.

If you like Blues go to www.electricblues.com. They have an extensive list of blues reviews and they link with Tower Records. I just checked Walter Trout and they have 17 releases at Tower, he must be getting popular, before( last year) there were only 8-9. Another place to check out blues is www.cdbaby.com for many genres of music. You can download and listen to samples to see what you like. Check out a guy named Melvin Taylor through electric blues, especially his release Dirty Pool, its one of the best discs I own.

I have most of Melvin Taylors catalogue. He is awesome. Dirty Pool is a great cd, I also like Bang That Bell and Rendezvous With The Blues. Another great blues artist worth checking out is Colin James. Anything he's released is good but I'd start with Bad Habits for an introduction.

I've bought a bunch of music from CD-Baby. Great site for sampling new artist and you can try before you buy with their song samples.
