Hey guys,

Well I decied to try something new. I had the mobius for about 6 months, and now i' decided to see the grass on the other side (silver dragon). This isn't really a permanent defection, I just want to appreciate and understand the difference.

I won't get to hear them until i return to my apartment on monday where they will start the burn in process. If anyone is interested, i'll post in my impression before and after the break-in process.

I haven't heard these cables for longer then a momment at the meets, so this will let me really get down and dirty with 'em. I have a great idea in my mind about how the mobius sounds, so I hope to hear something very different to keep things interesting : ]

I can say this off the bat, the build quality is excellent. The cable seems fit and finish equal to that of the mobius. I was never a big fan of the mobius's connectors since they didn't fully go into the headphone. I have to admit, i'm almost as excited as when i got the hd-650s in the first place. What fun! : ]

I'll keep you guys posted.

Congrats on your recent acquisition mjg, We could definently use another opinion on the Silver Dragon versus the Zu. The two most prominent opinions I've read were that Tuberoller prefers the Silver Dragon and Tom Hankins prefers the Zu Mobius. Personally I don't think I could spend so much on a cable but it's definently fun to hear what people think of them

yep yep, tonight i'll finally get to try them out. It's sort of annoying, i can't go home without having to spend a few days here, but atleast i get to pick up all my stuffs ; ).

What i am wondering is how they will react to the cardas golden reference in my system. I know the mobius with copper plated with silver, yet these are silver throughout i assume. Should be interesting.

Ok,

finally got that baby in. I also applied progold and deoxit to the interconnects.

The first i noticed is it's definatly silver sounding. I think it needs to break in for me to make opinions, but at first i thought they were very good. Sound stage is expansive, detailed, but i'm going to give it a good week break in for real thoughts on this.

Has anyone else has good/bad experience mixing copper with silver? Just curious.

I've tried making interconnects and speaker cable with copper, silver plated copper, and pure silver, and I prefer pure silver for its detail. I use silver plated copper when I'm too cheap to use pure silver mostly because it has teflon dielectric, but I've found that silver plated copper sounds a lot more like copper than silver, even though most of the signal should be moving along the skin of the conductor. So if I had to pick one or the other, I would most likely choose the Silver Dragon.

Silver break in is also pretty long, and I've read that some people feel that silver requires 200+ hours, although a week of non-stop action should take care of it.

Hope me opinions and hearsay help you to some degree.

UPDATE:

Any edginess that was present last night (let them play all night) is absolutely gone. Now I can hear the high-end and I must say I am impressed! The high end detail is excelllent, and i'm noticing more seperation between the sound frequencies. I know the mobius is silver plated copper, but they do seem way stiffer then these. I can actually wear these and not worry about the dongles that hang from the ear pieces. They are more similar to the cardas cable in that respect. The mobius is like wearing a piece of jewelery compared to this thing. That is not a complaint just an observation.

Moon audio suggest 40 hours break in, so i assume these will break in at half the time the mobius took. I won't make any assumptions yet, but i'll let them breakin finish then give you guys some more info.

I got to say though, acoustic guitar sounds absolutely wonderful with these. I'm very glad the edginess wasn't due to the copper and silver i have in my system. That had me a bit worried at first.

I'm glad you are enjoying them. I know I really enjoy mine. (Though I haven't heard a Mobius yet to compare)

After about 100 hours they are pretty much where they are gonne be. However I noticed subtle changes probably all the way up until 400-500 hours. (These were good changes though so nothing to worry about)

I thought they were done around ~100 to 150 hours, but i have noticed VERY subtle changes since then (i'd guess i'm around 250hrs now. havn't kept track). mostly just a little smoother without any loss in detail. things sound a bit more realistic now instead of the hyper-detailed presentation it had around 80-120 hrs. It's like the rest of the presentation caught up to the hyper-detail I had early on.

I'd like to get a zu mobius too, but I think i'd be better served just leaving the 650 combo alone and picking up some CD3ks or high end grados instead. heh.

Well thats your call. Ever since i got rid of the cd3k's and started using senns, i haven't looked back. I was curious about the modded ones, but i'd always be comparing them to the r10s.

High end grados seem nice though : ] I assume you mean ps1s or hp1000s?
