Today I swapped the stock opamps out of my CD-25 and replaced them with OP627BPs on browndog adapters...what a difference!

While I'll need some more time to listen, A/B and extended listening tests revealed much better positioning, more bass without sacrificing tightness or control, and my favorite: mellowed out highs. The brightness was my biggest issue with this player, and now it's nearly a non-issue. There was no sacrifice in detail, either. It sounds faster as well, perhaps a result of the higher bandwidth of the new opamps? The player just has a much nicer, more open, slightly airy sound now.

Can anyone tell me if all the other mods to this player yield as much of a result? For instance, I saw capacitor upgrades, RCA jack upgrades, etc...

The mod was incredibly easy to install, and well worth the money and effort spent.

PS - Thanks for all the info Akar.

Interesting...might have to do this mod at some point. I have my Perreaux and CD25 coming in sometime soon, so once I figure out what sort of sound I get from the system I'll see if I want to buy the new op amps. I had heard that the highs on the CD25 weren't too bad, which is part of the reason I bought it for the CD3000s. Improving the op-amps may be a good idea. ^_^

I'm using HD600's w/ Equinox and a maxed-out Meta42.
