I normally wasn't gonna do this, but after comparing my HD-600's and the 595's for a while, i feel like i should share my impressions on these two headphones. I bought the 600's from another member here, so they are well burned in. I got the 595's about 4 days ago, and since then, they have been burning in non-stop up to this point. Well, when paired up with my TerraTec DMX 6Fire sound 24/96 sound card and with my Corda HA-1 MK II amp (When i had it) i have to say that i prefer the 595's. All the people who had given these cans nothing but praise were dead on. These are great headphones. My impressions on the two cans will sound the same as all the others who have made their impressions on the 600's and the 595's. The 600's have a more spacious, relaxed atmosphere, and the 595's have a more livley, musical side to them. Detail wise, i think they are both the same. Even with the upfront sound of the 595's, they are still extremly detailed. The bass is about the same as well. The 595's are so livley and more upfront than the 600's. If you want to relax and lay in bed with some phones, get the 600's. Not to say that you can't do that with the 595's, but the 600's are better suited for that. The 595's also have a crisp, clean sound compared to the more relaxed, smooth sound of the 600's. I feel that the 595's are the better overall headphone. Like someone said, there isn't one specific thing that stands out with these phones..overall, everything sounds great. I think i finally found my perfect, overall headphone. Thanks to all the people who recommeneded the 595's...i think im satisifed for now

Can't wait for my PPA to get here...the 595's will sound that much better.

Put another couple hundred hours on those 595s and they'll sound even better!

Mm. I have both the 595 and 650. I find the 595 to be far too bright for my liking, but I currently lack other high quality components for my system, so perhaps I shouldn't make this judgement quite yet.

That's great news Mega. I've been waiting for 3 months for my 595's over here in Australia and still none in sight but I bought a pair of 555's in the interim 2 days ago and at this stage I'm very impressed. If the 595's are heaps better then I'm in for a real treat. I can't believe the transition just going from the 497's and as far as comfort is concerned you forget they are on your head after 5 or 10 minutes.
I was contemplating the 600's or 650's because of the delay but decided to go this way and wait for the 595's, as I have no intention of buying a dedicated headphone amp any time soon and everyone says that you need one for both these cans. From most of the reports here so far I really don't think that the 650's could be worth twice the price of the 595's but that is only my gut feeling as I haven't heard either at this stage and I'm sure a few are about to tell me otherwise.

Well between 650s, O&B A8s, 595s, and various 10-20 dollar crappy phones(all unamped)... the 650s are EASILY my favorite. As to whether or not their current sound is worth the 350 dollars I paid for them, I don't think so. They're still the best phones I've heard, though, which is somewhat surprising due to that fact that this comes in conflict with some of the things I've read here...

Supposedly the 595s are easier to drive and thus, should sound better than the 650s unamped. My liking the 650s better is probably due to my strong dislike of the 595's overall sound though.

So I am impressed with the 650s, even unamped, but I do hope they improve once I get my amp and source within the next couple weeks.

i guess im in the few that prefer a brighter, livelier phone. I havent' heard the 650's but they probably do sound alot like the 600's..with the laid-back nature. So even though the next upgrade for me would be the 650's, i would think i wouldn't prefer them to my 595's if they sound similar to the 600's...unless the trebel sounds a bit brighter.

I have just recieved my HD595 in my mail today and I absolutely love them. The design is awesome. The first sennheiser I had was a HD590 with a DIY cable I made (canare starquad). The HD595 sounds alot better then the HD590 right out of the box, the first differences I noticed straight off the bat was the midrange. The midrange is alot more detailed/upfront and the highs are not as aggressive as the HD590. The bass had alittle weaker slam on the HD595 compared to the HD590 but the HD595 sounded very smooth in transitions between mid-bass and highs. The HD595 are a very smooth sounding and upfront compared to the aggressive highs and strong bass in the HD590.

I picked up the HD595 for a great price of $199.96 at plasmabay.com, I think they still have some in stock.

HI: Congrats on your new 595. You will be in for a real surprise when you get the PPA amp. I also find a great source adds to the awesome sound of the 595. I got the 595 and then the PPA JMT amp and then a NAD HDCD player and just stopped buying stuff because I have all the sound that I ever wanted with this rig. The 595 are one great can and with great equipment the upgrade bug is gone. I just buy music now and don't even look at other headphones. I hope you enjoy the 595 with great pleasure.

The question now is, if the 595 is a phone with so few failings, and so satisfying to so many--certainly to me--why are some people disliking it so strongly? I mean, it's the kind of phone that might not immediately impress, but why should it offend? Is it only the brightness over the 580/600/650 brigade, or something more? Personally I find the 595 balance more realistic than the 580/600.
SUN, over to you.

Could this brightness mentioned be from the source or amp/headphone jack?

The HD 595 sound like the killer headphones but if you have a good headphone amp and are not phased by the price would the HD 650 be the better choice? Do the HD 650's rock as hard as the 595's, or are the 650's more laaid back?

i think its because of the senns hd600 and hd650, they are brilliant, and people tend to expect more from the future product.
when it turns out not as great as 650, thats why they complain.

either that or they just plain jealous

HD595 are good phones with lots of detail and crispy highs. But IMHO they are too bright and lack bass. They have quite aggressive, upfront presentation - not my cup of tea. That's why I prefer HD650 much more.
