Hey All,
As the subject says, I just got my new pads.
I have Alessandro MS1's which came stock with comfies, which I really do find to be comfy. However, I have heard alot about differences in sound based on which pads are used. I figured that these new pads would be worth a go since I will be getting a second set of Grado's in the very near future, and I do like to have some choice.
Right now I am listening to the bowls. I plan on using these exclusively for a few days so as to let the sound really sink in, but right away I notice a BIG increase in soundstage. Also, highs definitely seem higher, though not shrieky. Lows are clear and tight. Not too much different than with the comfies. If anything the lows are somewhat less impactful and less present. Midrange remains very forward and delicious.
As for comfort, with the bowls these cans become circumaural. I have fairly small ears and they are completely surrounded by the pads. I like the feeling. The caveat is that they are very stiff compared to the plush like comfies. So though I like the circumaural feeling, the less comfortable foam rates these less comfy than the comfies.
Despite the decrease in comfort, I already feel that they were worth the money. $10 for the bowls and they now have the increased soundstage that I was craving for movies, and they have a more circumaural feeling. It's kind of like getting a new headphones for $10!
I'll be back next week in this thread for my final bowl impressions and my first experience with the flats. But at a much higher price point ($30) they will have to work pretty hard to garner my praise
THANKS TODD!
On an unrelated note...Dave Matthews' albums are superbly mastered!
