And I hate to say, I'm a bit disappointed so far. I've only listened for about a half hour, but I didn't find them so comfortable. I KNOW I need to give my ears some time to get used to them, and I need to try the foamies as well as the white plastic thingies. And I need to let the Etys burn in. And I need a headphone amp. And...

I'm not bummed. I just thought I'd be absolutely in love with them on day one. And I tried them with my home stereo as well, which has a nice amp (Adcom 545 II), but didn't find the sound that different than my iRiver. It's very early in the game, and I'm sure I'll love them, but I haven't had my socks knocked off so far.

Give it a couple of days. Your ears need to adjust.

I was pleasantly surprised, when I first heard them. But, etys where my first real headphone. You have the benefit of owning MS1 before ety. You do really need an amp to make them more lively.

Thanks. I listened to them for a little over an hour last night and it was MUCH better. One, I chose a better CD. And secondly, I used the foamies, which seemed much more comfortable.

Should I be doing that same "reach around behind your head and pull your ear out" position for the foamies? I did it and it seemed to work well. I also did not wet the foamies, although I did for the white tips. Should I wet both?

When I got my ER-4P's I started to listen with the "rubber" triflange tips and thought they were o.k. The next day I tried the foam tips and the sound was much better. Better isolation and better bass sound. Of course this depends on your ears. I also pull my ear up and out. As far as I know you don't have to wet the foamies. Anyway I don't do it.
Have them now for about 2 months and still delighted with them.

I was pretty happy with them from day one, but I was ecstatic about them once the foamies got a little waxy and I could get them really deep into my ears. With deep insertion the bass is much better, isolation improves, and the sound seems richer overall. To give some idea of how far in I like them (tho ear cannals vary), I can't touch the back of the foamies with a finger because they're completely in my cannal.

Hmmm. That's interesting. With the plastic tips, it took a bit to get them out, but the foamies came right out. I wonder if they weren't in deep enough. I will admit I'm a bit afraid to put them in too deep.

Don't wet the foamies unless you enjoy ear infections.

You should definitely upgrade to a headphone amp and your source as well.

While the Ety's are thin on dynamic bass, they have gobs of detail.

And when you are travelling, you can't beat their compactness and ability to reduce outside noises.

I can't even imagine traveling without my etys now--I actually look forward to getting on a plane and zoning out to music for a few hours.

What do you suggest for either an amp or a source?

I second that question, what is a good amp for the Etys ER series? I should be getting my ETY ER-4Ps sometime next week.

Thanks!

I would hold off on a better source. But definitely look into getting a nice portable amp. I would wait till they fixed the issues with the superdual and take a look into those. the warmth and bass boost would be nice

I haven't heard it myself, but I believe etys sound good with Gilmore amps. They of course aren't portable.
