so now ive upped from the sr80I to the sr225I and i will write, as best to my ability a review and comparison of the two.

Initial thoughts: fresh out of the box, the 225I have more bass, and seem to have alot more of an airy sound. and give the music a more live feeling.

i will constantly be adding my opinion as these break in and i give them adequate time.

Edit: thank god the cord is shorter, but it is somewhat thicker.

also forgot to mention thank god for the shorter cord, and the 1/4th to 1/8th adaptor is serious. its heavy duty man.

You seem to using the Grados straight out of an ipod, is that right? I have the SR80s and whilst they are OK out of an ipod they are much beter amped.

This is true. I enjoyed the 225 without an amp for 2 years and the CKKIII made a big improvement.

Nonetheless, this thread could still do very well w/out nitpicking missing links in his chain, as they aren't central to the OP. Hopefully more people will look beyond the missing amp and see the merits of his post as purely a comparison between the 80 and the 225. His thoughts would be of value to those looking for an ampless solution, and since the Grado is a popular choice here, maybe his insight will help out those deciding between the 80 and 225.

Looking forward to your impressions!

Agreed. There is a significant improvement with Grados when using an amp when compared to straight out of an iPod. I've had and listened to both the (i) and non(i) versions of various Grados and I believe an amp is required to get the best sound. In my sig are links to my reviews comparing the non(i) versions of the 80 vs 225 plus the use of humble Total Airhead.

I hope you decide on an amp. Enjoy.

i have read your view of your grados with the airhead and it made me want an airhead but im holding out for a better amp. even though your review was super convincing of the airhead.but no1 had much to say about it.

an amp is essential to me im currently looking at getting my first one as we speak, looking at the the meier headsix or the little dot mk I+. were not all rich and can buy stuff at will.. will either of you who paired grados with an amp give me a review of the amp/amps you tired with these hps. also the lod's you used with the amp. and really ive heard the difference isnt that much for amp with hps, or do the grados really benefit from the amp.. (thats what id like 2 hear).

but yes my grados have been running for like 20 hours and the difference is now there.
they sound incredible. the bass is so much improved, that crystal clear clarity has now appeared, i can hear hidden stuff such as an artists choice to put in a record hiss sound on purpose, that was never there before.they sound much better. at this instant i'll say the 100 dollars extra is well spent at the moment.

also the grados sr225I cups fit the ears better and the sound seems more 3d and the sound stage really opens up with these.
