don't know about your soundcard but if it's anything like my laptop... DONT TURN IT UP! you'll only ruin your ears.

if you really want to you'll have to look into a decent soundcard or external solution.
then you will have to think about a budget.

Hrmm, your A700s have 64 ohms of impedance. I'm guessing your previous pair had less impedance and hence were easier to drive. If you get an amp you should be able to get better sound out of these.

Just a guess.

is there any difference with Headphones + Amp, Headphones + Aftermarket sound card, Headphones + Amp + Soundcard?

Was just wondering if I should get the amp over the soundcard or both

i hear clearly, I would just like them to be louder.

You could try amping them, but be warned, you may not like the results. Most amps without a low gain feature will create very heavy hiss on them. You may want to try a simple FiiO E3. The volume gain is not very big, but you will get no hiss.

Also, realize that the maximum input on AD700's are 500 mW, and at 98 db/mW sensitivity they have a max volume of 122 db, which is not high at all as far as headphones go. By constantly playing them at very high volumes you could risk damaging your headphones.

Buy an spl meter. If the AD700s are at less than 100 dB at full volume, come back here with the problem. Other than that, you are hurting your hearing and you need to get used to listening to music more quietly.

In my experience, even the senn 600s and 650s can be driven loud enough to hurt my hearing out of a macbook. If you have a soundcard that is putting out anything more than that, you are doing a lot of damage to your ears.
