Ok well as the topic said i bought the D-EJ955 a couple of days ago and i'm very happy with the unit. It's one of the thinnest discman's iv'e seen with a aluminium body.

The first cd i tried playing in it was a cd i burnt with cd text using Nero, i chucked the cd on the discman and i noticed that the remote said "reading" so i left it for a 5 mins and still said reading. So i tried different cd's and i came to the conclusion that this discman doesn't for some reason play cd's with cd text what was burned with Nero or CDRWIN but strangely enough it works with Blindwrite burnt cd's with cd text but of coarse it still doesn't read the text.

Now i am extremely annoyed because i backed up most of my original cd's because i am going overseas for two years and i refuse to take my original cd's. I rang Sony and as soon as i said that they are burnt cd's which do not work they snobbed me off saying they don't work because of the cd text format and that it's a burnt cd.

Now on the packaging is says this discman reads cdr/cdrw's so wouldn't that be a tad misleading?? Now i was just wondering if it's possible to actually go into a demo mode or something similar to my old Sharp 722 MD player and disable the cd text?

Now i have a couple of choices.... 1. Return the discman and get 2 models below this one which is the D-EJ775 what hasn't got cd text but the remote isn't back lit.... or 2. Return it an get a Panasonic maybe a SL-CT590?? or 3. Screw Sony and reburn all my cd's without cd text. Would anyone have any ideas on what i can do. I wouldn't mind keeping this discman because it's a great cd player but it's a bit sad for a new discman not to play cd text which is a new format for cd's or atleast if it can't read the cd text format then just bypass that and just play the cd... Any help would be appreciated.

We're sorry, BpC. Though another Head-Fi member has a D-EJ955 he/she has no "self-burned" CD-Text encoded CDs at all - only a few (if any) CD-Text encoded CDs that had been commercially pre-recorded (and pre-mastered at the factory). In fact, very few CDs have CD-Text encoded on them.

Well is there such a thing as a test mode or a tech mode where you can modify things within the discman by pressing certain buttons? Discmans would have similar modes like MD players wouldnt they?

I heard Nero does not do cd-text properly - have a go with Feurio (its free to try - http://www.feurio.com/).

I've burnt cds with cd-text using Feurio and they play back fine on my EJ925. The only problem I've had was with a cd that had 60 tracks - there is obviously a limit to how much text you can fit in! Even then, it still played fine - the track names were just garbled.

I wish when ever i load a .cue file in the title screen it comes up Not Responding.. !!! It keeps on crashing. I would love to see if this cd text work's on my discman. By the way i'm using the latest version shareware though and *cough* XP *cough*. >>=\

That's really odd. I burn cd's (w/ cd-text) using Adaptec's EasyCD, and it works fine on my 955. It does take longer to read on startup (maybe as much as 5-10 seconds), but after that it's fine. The only unburned cd I own with cd-text is Fiona Apple's last release, and it works fine too.

I have the EJ1000 (same innards as the EJ955) and it reads standard CD-Text CDs fine... although as previously mentioned, it does take a few seconds longer to read the TOC into memory

*sigh* This is getting ridiculous i tried burning in ez cd aswell with cd text and i left the discman on after putting in the cd and it kept on saying "reading".. for 10 minutes!!!!!! The funny thing is that the discman seems to work ok except for the backlight what doesn't light up, there is no sound and it says "reading" when i try the functions they work and i can go back and forth with the tracks..

Well i'm not sure if it's my unit which is whacked or it might be because it's a Australian version or it's just another bs stunt buy Sony to kill piracy, but all i'm doing is backup up my existing cd's with cd text. >>=\

I don't know what else to tell you. Maybe your particular unit is bad. Where did you buy it?

(Sidenote: I thought Adaptec's EZCD and Nero were really bad together--don't the drivers cause bad problems?)

Hrmm i just popped in the Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene original cd and believe it or not the cd text worked. I checked out cd info in Nero and next to the track's it says audio. So i don't know original cd's have a weird cd text format or what because i am totally baffled.
