After searching around the forum it's still unclear whether the updated version of the iGrado can or cannot be opened up and recabled without destroying the housing.

The stock cable really needs to go...

Anyone tried the recable on a recently purchased pair?

Well apparently there are two version. In the second version, it appears Grado removed the foam from inside the housing behind the driver, as many owner were doing with the previous model. However, they apparently glued the housing together in the 2nd version so you can't open it without destroying it FWIR. So, the "newer" version doesn't have that foam and you can clearly see tha back of the drivers through the grills.

same. right out of the box I can feel some play in it. I would imagine a moderate tug would pull them right out of the headphones!
