i just bought grado sr80 yesterday, after run in a day, today i listen to my favourite music, i found the high and low range is pretty good, but the vocal sound is very thin, and the sound stage is not really wide, is that the run in time not enough, i heard people said it need 50 hours to run in this headphone, is it right?

HELP

Hiya...

By 'thin'... do you mean its bright... yet distant, or do you mean dull, and non-existant?

Bright ~ Grados signature sound... could be tamed with more burn in if you're lucky...

Dull ~ doesn't sound like any Grados that I know

True. The Grato signature sound is like a shiny hammer hitting you over and over again in the head until you go "Hey, these sound really...(clang) good!".
Of course it's source dependent as well. Contrary to what many say on this forum about Grados being easy to drive, I disagree, I think they need quite a lot of power before they sound 'Grado' as opposed to 'shyte'.

what i mean is the singer sounds pretty far back and weak

That description doesn't sound like any Grado I know. Try a different source. Or maybe it's the recording.

A natural midrange and realistic voices don't count to the strengths of Grados, at least the SR series. The mids are a little recessed in comparison to lows and highs... but probably the sound will get better and smoother than now with some more burn-in.

HI: Good luck with your new cans. I think a amp will fix that problem. Do you have a headphone amp?

I noticed that problem on the SR-60s, even with a decent source and amp. The vocals, especialy female vocals, sounded like they were partly hidding behind something. They were a lot of fun, but they were a little to harsh to wear for too long.

Thats strange because i always find the vocals to have an extreme clarity and thus sound very realstic, and also mine sound almost too close to the singer like as if hes standing right in front of you, not at all far away (im also using 80s)

just as an experiment - without covering the external air holes, move the two drivers closer into your ears. also try putting pressure on the very bottom to 120 degrees (very top being 0 degrees) and seeing if the sound changes to your liking. if it does, you may have to bend the headband for more or less pressure.

No, didn't own any headphone amp, but, for a $100 headphone, is it worth to buy an amp for it? cause i know the grado amp is really expensive, or can you please give me any another suggestion for the amp. "i am living in asia (hong kong), so the price may include the delivery charges...
