I didn't want to post this until my art di/o was on its way, but full compass is selling brand spankin' new Art DI/O dacs for the lowly price of $96. The price has been at this level for quite a while, I was just greedy.

Be sure to get a new power supply. The stancor one is definitly a step up from the supplied wallwart.

Although I don't know much about separate DAC's, that seems like a ridiqulously low price. Doesn anyone here have one of these? How does it sound?

I'm VERY tempted to try one of these out. Might give me a reason to nix the M-audio Revo idea, and get this to use with my soundstorm.

wahoox2,
While I haven't heard one, they are supposedly one of the best deals in Hifi period. They are very modifiable. Boldercables.com does a few different levels of mods to the di/o as well has having an aftermarket power supply. There are a few cheap tweaks you can do your self that I have read about. These include: The stancor power supply from alliedelec.com, terminating the unused digital out put and analouge inputs, removing the tube and grounding the chassis. Do a search here and on audioasylum and you can find a plethora of information on them. I plan on getting one very soon.

These are badass in soundcard source situation, right?

By the way, Full Compass kicks ass - I got my DT-770 Pro's from them... and then sold them... and now I'm going to buy another pair.

andrzejpw,

I just ordered one, thanx for the info. I got a question though: what cables are you planning to use with the ART DI/O ? As far as I understood from the specs pages it has S/PDIF out, but instead of RCA type audio it has 1/4" sockets.

Well, for the digital cable, I'll be using a zucable firemine. (www.zucable.com). I bought one of their "refurbished" .5M rcas for $19.

For the analog output, I'm using 1/4 inch to RCA adapters so that I can use my Outlaw PCAs.

Do you find you could use attenuators for the 'hotter' output from the ART?

I used to use Bolder attenuator cables with my DI/O.

Now I don't bother, I just feed the hot output into my amplifier directly with 1/4inch/RCA adapters - I don't hear any difference, and my amplifier doesn't clip. It just means that I will need to be more careful with the volume pot.

i have been browsing at sudioasylum and they said this art dio will only sound really good with mods. the regular unmodded is not really that great but avareage.

what mods are availabl;e for this ?
how much are the different mods for this art dio?

screwdriver - go to boldercables.com to check out the mods wayne has available for the art di/o as well as the cost. I got mine modded there and have nothing but nice things to say about the whole experience. wayne is a great guy and my unit sounds great.

There are probably more places to get it modded or you could do it yourself. I think there is a yahoo group dedicated to modding the art too.

I joined that club last night. I don't know if I will take on the mod myself though, they had several galleries of DI/O pr0n and that PCB is packed pretty tight.
