Okay folks, whoever cares to post their scores from the June SAT, go ahead! Be proud!

I only took two subject tests, as I've already done the ACT with Writing. I took Physics and Math II.

Physics - 690 (I was a bit disappointed, but seeing as how in class we did absolutely nothing on electricity, I think this was a fairly good score. I left all the electromagnetic questions blank, which was probably about 15-20)

Math II - 800 (w00t!, I left 3 questions blank out of 50, but every other one that I answered I was positive I was correct)

Go ahead people, show off your skills! Also, if you want to list colleges that you are going to apply to, go ahead!

This weekend, I'm driving with my parents to NY, visiting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology, and University of Rochester, all in that order. It'll be a lot of driving time, but these are about half of the colleges that I'm mainly looking at. I did receive the RPI Medal, which is a 15k/year scholarship.

Later in July, I'm taking a day to drive to Case in Cleveland to tour, and a few weeks after that, I'm going to Kettering, where I've already been accepted. My parents want me to look at Valparaiso and maybe Purdue, but I'm not too inclined, and I'm not really sure when I'll be able to do that.

Well, thanks for letting me vent my plans, but I'd just like to say that Head-Fi has been vital to me, at least in my major choice. I had always thought I'd do Computer Science, but then I discovered the DIY forum! I now am planning on Electrical Engineering, so I can design my own circuits. I've really become enamored of circuitry, and I think I will enjoy the field.

Excellent! Looks like your username is an apt one!

Those are some sweet scores. But scores arent everything. Get involved in extra stuff around school. Try to find things that relate to what you want to do.
I am graduating high school in less than a week and absolutely cannot wait to go to college.

Heh...I've got a friend who got 800 on the English part and 600 on Math, but then retook it and got 600/800, so since colleges take the best scores from each section, it looked like he got a 1600.

I imagine he got some pretty decent scholarships, but he just went to our local state university (which is well -regarded, but anyway...he could probably have gone anywhere he wanted).

Are you sure they do that? I don't think colleges take the best score from each session. IIRC, they only look at your highest cumulative score (but I guess in this case they'd look at both). So, if you got 500 Verbal and 720 Math, and then re-took it and got 680 Verbal and 600 Math, they would look at the latter and not the former. This was the case with the UC system, at least. I was asked to give my highest cumulative SAT/ACT scores without mixing and matching from different testing sessions.

Most tend to take the best combined as Azure said. Some colleges will take into account any and all SAT scores you may have gotten, in this event then they might see both 800s. Probably one of the few situations it would be to your advantage. My SATs weren't to my satisfaction but I only needed the 34 on my ACTs anyway, wasn't required to supply both scores. Which was good since I moved schools senior year and would have had to pay to do that.

Congratulations to all of you nailing your SATs and ACTs. Whether hard work or raw intelligence, way to go. So does this mean there is a cluster of Asperger's Syndrome on headfi?

Is everyone taking subject tests and ACT now-a-days? When I took them, back in ye olde y2k, no one I knew was taking subject tests and the teachers said "no one takes the ACTs".

My High School only offers ACT, I had to go to a neighboring school to do the subject tests. The only reason I took them was because schools such as Carnegie Mellon require ACT plus Writing, as well as 2 subject tests in math and science. I am a bit disappointed in the 690 for Physics, but could anyone tell me what colleges consider acceptable for that?

Some colleges do take the best scores on each part of the SAT reasoning test (instead of only cumulatively), a friend of mine had his score improve dramatically this way. Can't tell you which one do though.

I couldn't tell you which colleges take the best cumulative or the best from each section, but in any case, the colleges my friend looked took the best from each section instead of best cumulative. I only took it once, since I already knew which college I wanted to go to, and it didn't matter as much as my ACT scores. Actually, I showed up late for my ACTs, but I still fared pretty decently.

I didn't get into the program I wanted (piano performance), but that was because I had a horrendous audition, not because of scores or grades. I showed up early, according to the schedule they sent me, and figured I'd have a bit of time to practice. Unfortunately, they came to get me as soon as I arrived and accused me of being late. Well, I got flustered right off the bat, and I don't think I've played more poorly in my life. C'est la vie! It was probably for the best, though, as I'm studying something I like almost as much and don't have the pressure of having to practice 6+ hours a day.

Besides, perhaps one day I will go to a conservatory--Richter went at the age of 27 and is one of the most remembered of all time. (Then again, he went to a Russian conservatory at a time when they were popping out some of the most amazing pianists ever--e.g. Gilels, others...blanking now.)

Last note--can the RPI Medal award money be applied to dorms/books? I figure you're going to go somewhere that costs more than 15k a year, but I'm still curious (and too lazy to search the internet for the response
