I just got my Jumbo pads for x-mas and OMG.
For one they are soooooo much more comfortable than the comfies i had.
The bass is stronger I believe.
The best part though is it is so much less harsh. Soo much easier to listen to. Mids are clearer and the treble is no longer overwhelming
The only problem is that it is quieter now b/c the drivers are farther away. Now i NEED an amp, before I just wanted one.

Just thought I would share my positive experience.

Tomorrow I get my turntable so I cannot wait to test them with some vinyl bliss!!

I've been considering the jumbos for my MS2i's but I've read that they destroy the mids. Interesting to see a contrasting opinion.

Wow this is totally the opposite of my experience (with the MS-2i and HF-2),

generally the bass is retained/tad leaner, mids become a bit sucked out, and the treble becomes harsher and more sibilant, to the point where it's unbearable..even with the darker HF-2.

This is probably because I am compensating for the distance by increasing gain on my amp, hence the treble boost.

But I'm glad it works for you! Jumbo pads are great...if they didn't change the frequency that much it'd be a terrific alternative.

You're absolutely right about the need for an amp. When I got my GS1k, I thought the difference in presentation was interesting but I missed the immediacy of the doughnuts. The GS1k compensates for the bass loss with more thump but without an amp, there are still losses. When I got a better amp - the M^3 with variable bass boost - all that was lost was gained back with interest. Grados sound fine without an amp, but until you amp them right, you have no idea what you've got, not even with the "lowly" SR-60.

The world doesn't revolve around the M^3 (which happened to my choice in a solid-state amp for under $500) but you should definitely make sure you get a quality amp, whatever it happens to be. The Grados were bred for tubes but there are some solid states that bridge the gap quite nicely (I have a weird aversion to tubes). Don't buy a cheap amp. The little amps won't really give you what you're looking for. You need something substantial. You can get a decent amp for a few hundred dollars, but I wouldn't go any lower than that. The stuff in the $100 range will raise volume (which you don't really need) but not fill out the space and give you the warmth you need.

I have them too but dont use them all the time.
Im somewhere in between lozanoa and xan7hos.
The bass seems more but less acurate and the mids are less agressive. It did tame the highs though.

No mods or something needed ?

They fit fine, and I was surprised that they sound even better than the stock 325i pads cemented to Sennheiser 414 pads with cutouts that I was using, and they are more comfortable as well; my ears could barely squeeze inside the above-mentioned mod

I must say that I've never heard or read this before now.

I agree though that the 325is need good amp'ing to sound their best. With great amp'ing, the infamous harshness is much reduced and not present at all when listening to a lot of music. It's really only rock with higher pitched rhythm guitar thrashing that will bring out that strident characteristic, and this may be the reason for the 325is' infamy for harsh sonics. Otherwise, it's a crisp and clear sound that you're bathed in.

The bass does not improve. In fact, it becomes anemic.

The low mids become anemic also. High to mid mids are there, but far further away.

There's just no way 325 + G cushions is going to increase bass. It just doesn't happen.

Also, you have to duoble the volume to get the same level of sound with these, which is a recipe for disaster because you're just going to be hitting the volume level of clipping on the grado's at just barely listenable settings.

You must remember Im comparing to the comfie pads. After about a month of using them, I have noticed that bass is not stronger like I initially thought, I notice if I push the cups closer it is stronger but The comfie pads are no better with bass IMO. Mids just sound alot clearer and less harsh. And Highs are definitely less harsh.

But honastly the best part for me is the comfort. If I can listen to them longer they are better for me.

I was quite miserable until I fit my SR325is in a different way. Previously, I'd fit them over my ears like this:

All I ended up with was the driver grill touching my ears and in no time, I'd be in pain. I was miserable back then since I really liked the sound but detested the lack of comfort.

I then took advice that I got here. I now fit them over my ears as illustrated here:

I can't say that I have comfort issues now and can listen for hours. I also prefer how they sound!! At first, it felt odd, but right now, I'd have sworn that this latter way of fitting them is how it was intended. Good luck.

The way you like them would probably not work for me as the part that got uncomfortable for me was the top of my earlobe from the pressure on it.
