Nice thread title, eh? Actually -- and this is no joke at all -- there is an excellent singer/songwriter named Jude (I think his full name is Jude Christodal), and I just thought I'd recommend him. I've had his album No One Is Really Beautiful for a couple of years now, and I'd very much suggest fans of folky/quirky pop/rock sign up for this one.

I found out about him when I first listened to the City of Angels soundtrack (which is HDCD by the way), and heard his song on there titled "I Know" in which he delivers a touching, soft-sung performance that mini-explodes into a daring falsetto style that sounds like it came right off Jeff Buckley's genius album Grace. This song can also be found on No One Is Really Beautiful, along with a collection of both slow and uptempo fantastic songs. NOTE: No One Is Really Beautiful is not HDCD.

I'm listening to this album now -- I listen to it quite frequently -- and realized I never mentioned it in the forums.

He has a new album (King of Yesterday) coming out next week, and I'm sure it'll be on my buy list that week.

That he has such a groovy name doesn't hurt.

I got a sampler with the title track (King Of Yesterday) on it, and my HDCD light comes on so I assume the new album is HDCD. I loved "I Know" but I did not get into the rest of the first album.

I just had a real Twilight Zone moment. I had never heard of this Jude artist before reading Jude the HeadFizer's post. I just got an e-mail from CDNow alerting me about the availability of his new disc:

Yesterday." Recommended for fans of Badly Drawn Boy, Ben Folds Five, Elliott

It seems that CDNow's personalization software believes I'll like this CD based on my other CDNow purchases (an awfully paltry sample size, BTW). I wonder if that's a good or bad sign?

Have you given the first album just a listening or two, or have you played it several times to see if it caught on with you? I expected this melancholy, romantic album based on first hearing "I Know" and was also surprised by the rest of the album -- wasn't sure I liked it at first. A few listens confirmed it as a definite keeper, and one I still listen to regularly now.

If you haven't given it at least a few runs, you might consider doing so. If you did, then maybe it's just not for you.

Man, that's weird, eh? I'm going to try to find some sample tracks from the new album to give it a listen. I have a feeling I'll end up liking this one too.

Wow -- I'm really anticipating this new album. I was also kinda shakey about the rest of the tunes on his frist album other than I Know, but it definitely grows on you after a few listens -- it's some pretty clever stuff. All these good things aside, he should really think about changing his name.

I've given "King Of Yesterday" a couple of listens and it seems to be a nice collection of well crafted pop tunes that will probably require many more listenings to sink in, as there is a lot of variety here, including a cover of the Bread tune "Everything I Own", which is well done until it sinks near the end from the weight of overproduction and simply wandering too far. Quirky in places, quite catchy. I'll report back after some further listening.
