Interesting. On Amazon there are listings for remastered Joy Division albums coming out at the end of the month.

Unknown Pleasures

Closer

Still

I sure hope they turn out well!

I'd be interested if it weren't for the steep price tage, sheesh $30 bucks. I'll be sure to check them out in the store if I get the chance.

Yep, I bought that a few years ago, and now they're going to triple dip us with what looks like Deluxe Editions (ala The Cure) of the catalog. At least, the prices point to that.

Now Warner is going to hit the fans through another one of their labels. I'm going to wait and see on this.

ditto. most if not all studio tracks (the only one missing was "The Walked in Line" IIRC) were already remastered on Heart and Soul box set, which already sounds pretty darn good; except for the four Ideal For Living tracks, IMHO sound better on Substance 1988, much less background hiss.

i would've been interested if these remasters come with some bonus material like The Cure or DM remasters, but these just have the normal album tracks. the only thing i might consider picking up is Still, just for "They Walked In Line," "Sister Ray," and the Birmingham concert. would've been nice if they included "Twenty Four Hours" from the same show like they did with the vinyl version years ago.

what fans really need are New Order remasters! with bonus material! include all those missing tracks and remixes on bonus discs and i'd be one happy camper. as useful as the Retro box set was (with the bonus 5th disc), overall it was pretty lackluster. the fourth disc (New Order/Bobby Gillespie - Live) was the most intriguing but still it only offers a tiny glimpse of their live stage antics. thankfully most of those shows the live tracks were sourced from leaked into the trading community; many fans believe Peter Hook planned the leak!

i would've loved the original Recycled singles box set idea the band proposed (a la DM) but they complained about budget. pul-eez, if the Mode could do it, why not New Order?

but... i digress. bong hopes for a more listenable Still!

Well I have two comments:

1)I almost never buy import new releases, just wait for US version or buy used later.

2)There is no reason to do a re-issue with the same tracks as previous CD, why would anyone buy it?
$30 is just plain silly price to pay. Tons of material available to be used as bonus tracks and lots of extra time available to add extra tracks.

Also I prefer not to have a bonus CD like Cure remasters since this doubles the purchase price, just add 3-4 tracks to 1CD version.

I do have the Heart & Soul box set, but I got the euro edition used (not rhino)
released on London label

Interesting.
I have "Hearth and soul" so I don't think I will need anything else. The sound quality is much better than the original CDs, apart from the fourth CD (the live one) which is so bad I use it as a coaster under my cups of tea.

I will be interested in comparison of sound quality between this new remasters and "H&S"

I listened to CD1 last night (thinking at the time "wow this has become so uninteresting to me now") and didn't think it sounded all that great. I didn't put the original CD on for comparison though. I do have the original LP of 'Closer' which I suppose might be the reference. If the reports are positive I may spring for 'Closer'. It remains special while everything else JD bores me...not sure why.

I want my "Touched by the Hand of God" !!

I have STILL on vinyl.. picked it up years ago. Doubt I would bother with a cd..

Actually I'd rather get the rest of the JD catalog on vinyl.. I remember the vinyl UNKNOWN PLEASURES and CLOSER sounding much warmer than my cd versions.. (radio station copies)

I dunno.. I have a suspicion that Depeche Mode outsells New Order by at least 4 to 1, if not more..

I was surprised by the sound of original vinyl Closer after being conditioned for so many years by the colder more clinical CD, which seemed to make sense given the emotional atmosphere.
