And I read somewhere that one of the Grados is an opera singer - same relation? Anyone own one of his albums (if he has one out)? How is it?

Um nevermind it looks like it's the real deal. Found this pic of Joe in front of the same poster on the Grado history website.

Interesting...Headphone making opera singer...

Aren't his headphones suited for rock? You'd think someone like him would produce a headphone catered for classical and opera, instead of rock.

You are thinking of John Grado, this is Joe "HP-1000" Grado.

A true Grado fan would buy that poster for a dollar, bring it to the next meet, and give it to John to give to his uncle.

To sign. And give it back. And put the poster on the ceiling over the bed to look at while listening with some Grado cans. Ok, well maybe a stalker would do that. "Jahn, official Grado Stalker!"

There is a lot of talent in that family.

From the Grado Labs website:

Grado, one of the oldest family owned companies in the Audio Industry, has for almost half a century been the leaders in design engineering for the high-end audio and recording industries.

Grado is famous for their remarkable headphone and phono cartridge designs and hold over 48 patents. Company founder, Joseph Grado is credited as the inventor of the stereo moving coil phono cartridge. He is responsible for more innovations in phono cartridge design than any other person in our lifetime and was inducted into the Audio Hall of Fame in 1982.

The Legacy Continues...
Joseph Grado has passed on the mantle of President to his nephew John Grado. John has risen from sweeping the floors of the factory as a twelve year old, to President and Owner of Grado Laboratories. Following on from Joseph Grado's acclaimed designs, John has led the development of the Prestige Series and Reference Series of headphones and phono cartridges. All of which have received World Wide acclaim by the Audio press.

Plus, there also a fine artist in the family:

I officially stopped trying for the bigtime years ago, but once you're a singer, you always are. It's a portable instrument, and easy to pick up and play, that's the beauty of it.

It's easy and hard all at the same time. It's easy in that anyone who doesn't sing can learn to be better than are now. And singing is the art of controlled speaking, or shouting. And you do that everyday anyway.

But as you progress it gets difficult of course. You try to tame this wild beast that doesn't always do what you want. And there's a million things to think about before you get to the emotion of it..

But that point is different for everyone. I mean, it's talent mixed with schooling, mixed with luck. Some are going to get further than others obviously. But my point is everyone can learn how!
