I can't compare, but I think they sound great. You can easily find reviews online of the homegrown stuff by doing a quick google search on it. I won't spoil all your fun by telling you what the reviews say

Thanks.

I've read the reviews of the Homegrown cable. What I need to know, though, is how JMT's creation compares to the Bolder cable.

I have a Markertek Mini-Mini and if I upgrade it will be "all-out" to either the Bolder or possibly this JMT-built Mini-Mini.

Are you dissatisfied with your current sound? I haven't read anything about the Bolder, but I do know the homegrown sounds great and is very affordable compared to the retail types. You might consider buying a pre-built homegrown with an upgraded braiding style.

Good luck finding more info on the Bolder.

I'm with you deejaybump. I have a markertec that is looking pretty worn in (like 600 hours), and I want to go all out for my next upgrade. I am definitely "satisfied" with my set-up, but I feel the next cable I get would bring me a little closer to audio nirvana. It's between the JMT, Bolder, and Kimber.

I've owned both the Kimber and Bolder. Bolder was much better, but it sucked because it was stiff as hell, and also twice as thick as the Kimber. I don't have them now, so I can only go off memory, but I'll let you know about the homegrown one once it arrives.

A&M--

Thanks. I look forward to your impressions--or anyone else's who compares these two (JMT vs Bolder) cables.

I am satisfied with my current setup. I only have around 1oo hours on this setup, anyway--there should be no need to upgrade...yet. But I want to know how the JMT compares to the Bolder so that when I do upgrade down the line I know how much money to set aside for the cable.

How are those silver cables so far? Which lengths and connectors did you get?

HI: They are just beautiful cables with L plugs. I don't know weather to plug them in my source or just hold then and stare at them. They are burning in now. I got two of them.

HI: Yes they are mini to mini about 12" long sort of silver bradded wire just awesome looking. JMT is just unreal with his talent and if not for doing this diy stuff for pure pleasure I am sure he would be a millionaire.

I agree! JMT's handiwork is top notch! These ICs look smoking hot and sexy

This comparison is based off memory of the Bolder cable, I do not have it anymore.

HGA:
Source - Pana 570
amp - Super Mini V3, META42 (AD823/EL2001/220uf Cerafines/2x9V)
headphones - Senn MX500, Beyer DT250-250

Bolder:
source - same
amp - CHA-47 (470uf/2x9V), ETA42 (AD8610/EL2001/470uf Cerafines/2x9V)
headphones - Senn HD600, Beyer DT250-80

Build quality goes to the Bolder, it's a monster, but there's no flexibility, it's unusable in a portable bag. It's discontinued but you can build it or find someone else to, just get Canare F-12 plugs and use jon risch (single belden 89259) recipie. There's all kinds of information on it.

Prior to 100 hours of burn in, both cables have edge and glare, not good, since all portable players suck. Both have good transparency, they pick up detail pretty well. The HGA has more extention, but isn't as refined as the Bolder. It's strength is in clarity, all the notes are crisp, this is especially evident in the treble. The bolder has a softer timbre, although it seemed to have allowed texture through better. Tonally, both are relatively neutral, with the Bolder leaning on the warm side (slightly more midrange presense). The Bolder has more bass authority, but doesnt sound as controlled as the HGA. I'd say the HGA has better rhytm and timing (faster attack and extended decay), but overall the sound isn't as coherent as the Bolder.

The Markertek and Kimber aren't even in the same league.

I don't think much else need to be said, I tried to explain the differences in an easy way to understand. I like the HGA very much, now I'd like to try a Silver Lace version which I suspect will match the Bolders refinement and improve on the soundstage.
