How is pair like?

So far it is the best I've heard the 8As sound. That is even in comparison to my Triad L3/Firestone PSU paired with my DACport LX (via silver cable RCA to 1/4 Jack). So taking into account that that is $1,200 set up vs $150.00 player and I feel the player sounds better with the 8As lol. Otherwise I don't think the 8As sound that great for music to be honest. But paired with the N1 (on the Wooduo preset) they most definitely sound great for music . Still waiting on Hisound to release a needed firmware update to address volume control issues (too loud on the lowest setting IMO) and also to address fade in issues for FLAC files.

the synergy between the 8A and N1 must be very good. quite the compliment for the N1 too.

I've gotta admit, this RSA predator sounds like crap with my 16's.  When I spend an hour with someone else's it sounded amazing with my 16's, but mine just sounds really muddled and messy, with subpar low frequency extension.  Not sure if it's that I got a regular usb cable for it, or burn-in is actually real with this particular amp.  Ray said give it 200-300 hrs, seems excessive, but I'll give it a few weeks.  Hopefully things work.  For now, my Iphone is going to have to do, as it sounds much better than using the amp.

Jh16 have more impact but less midbass than 8a. But jh16 have more subbass. I do feel that the 8a have more bass overall but i prefer jh16 bass. note that my jh16 is not the freqphase ver .

I found the opposite. 8.a can pump out more bass and impact (sounds like dynamic type of driver), especially sub bass, so it has somewhat slow decay.

I wish JH Audio had given the JH16 freqphase version an entirely new name, it makes it hard to research what they sound like when there's confusion as to what model is what.

The change is not sufficient to make it a completely new model, that's how I feel. There is improvement in terms of sound stage and imaging but the overall sound signature and tonal balance stays the same.

This doesn't mean anything. Either will fit you very well with JH16 being slightly better because it's faster and better controlled IMO. But overall 8.a will probably go easier on your ears with warmer and smoother presentation. Although it doesn't take much power to driver them, neither of these two is easy to pair with source.

We're in the same boat, although I'm going with Merlins. I get impressions on Friday!

Would JH Audio send the impressions info I had from like a year ago, so I can use with another company? I emailed them a few times and got no response, and the one reply I did seemed unwilling.

Just an observation. I used 14 month old impressions stored at ACS for a new pair of ACS T1's and found that the fit was not as it should be. Turned out my ears had changed. Not unusual according to my Audiologist. He does a lot of impressions and he told me that if the impressions are a year old or more that he would encourage me to get fresh ones so that the fit is at its best for the longest period of time.

YMMV...
