Now that the new James Bond movie, Die Another Day is coming out, I'd like to ask you guys a question. Who was the better Bond? Connery, or Moore? I've heard two sides of the story. Some say that Connery was too impersonal, and that he didn't really connect with the audience sometimes. Others(including a Time article) say that Moore was too "geriatric." Do you agree? Personally, Moonraker was my first Bond movie, and although connery has grown on me, Moore still holds a special place. Anyone else what to come in here?

Connery (at least in his first 4 films) was a cold hearted, ruthless snake. Tmothy Dalton tried to bring back the coldhearted edge back, and he was accused of taking the role too seriously. Brosnan bought it back with "Goldeneye" and he was loved. ("For Queen and Country, James?" "No, for me.")

now, Die Another Day, hopes to bring back the excitement of Thunderball. i can't wait.

did Thunderball ever make it to DVD?

DR. No: "That was a Smoth & Wesson. And you've had your five shots." silencer goes off...

Personally, I prefer Connery in the role. You kind of expect a secret agent to be cold and ruthless. Moore wasn't bad, but just didn't seem quite suave enough. Brosnan has been runner-up to Connery I think and better than Moore.

Of course that's just my opinion.

Sure he's a secret agent, but its James Bond! The thing is, you also don't expect a secret agent to sleep with anything that moves, though bond did. I wouldn't expect a womanizer like bond to be as cold as connery was.

That should be "six."

Anyway, they said that Connery played a kind of James Bond that could be kissing a chick one minute and then shoot her the next, while Moore couldn't do that. I wouldn't put any stock in what Time says -- they can't write decent news articles, so why pay attention to their attempted critiques of movies? I thought Moore was funnier than Connery, more light-hearted. Dalton was pretty pathetic -- yes, he tried to be a snake like Connery, except he was so emotional all the time. Kind of loses the "cold" part that way.

I used to prefer Connery, but recently I've converted to preferring Moore.

Timothy Dalton was a blight on the Bond name. Brosnan is quite good. I want to see the new movie.

Bah, dalton doesn't count.

DanG: that's what I didn't really like about Connery. He was really too finicky. Roger Moore played a more consistent character. Anyone know what I mean? Ok, as in the sennheiser hd580s are really consistent. They sound good with everything. On the other hand, W100s are a bit more changeable. They're switchhitters. 580s are Roger Moore. The w100s are connery.

Having read a few of Ian Fleming's 007 novels, I have to say that Connery comes closest to Fleming's vision, being the only Bond who brought along a definite brutishness...I'll put it this way: I can see Connery's Bond killing a man with his bare hands without breaking a sweat, but can't see Brosnan's Bond doing that..

Actually, there has been at least seven 007's...

Barry Nelson (The first James Bond)
Sean Connery
Timothy Dalton
George Lazenby
Roger Moore
David Niven
Pierce Brosnan

It's true... Sean Connery IS bond.

I like Moore's humor, though.

Brosnan's OK... the recent movies are iffy, though. This next one better be good!

It's a good thing they're going back to Aston Martin... what was with those Bimmers?
