This is the first Fim(First Impression Music) title I've picked up and have to say this is an incredible recording. I think it sounds better than some SACD titles I have. I'm going to have to get some more titles from Fim if this is any indication of their quality.

acidtripwow,

i have this CD on the original groove note records. the sound quality is great but the musicianship leaves a bit to be desired. at least in the drumming. the drummer constantly misses his fills--it ruins "trav'lin' light" and "one for my baby."

i you like jacintha check out ana caram's 'bossa nova' disc from chesky records. totally different music but a great performance and great sound.

acid,

OT, but check your post count!!! Yikes! BTW, how's that Rebecca Pidgeon (The Raven) sound?

XRCD, overall, is the most natural sounding CD disc mastering system imo, this is in comparison to the DCC & Mofi discs I've owned or heard. XRCDs aren't tweaked or manipulated via eq or tube mastering electronics, they seem to be a more direct transfer of the master tape.

But there are tons more titles of XRCDs I'd buy before Jacinita, regardless of how good the recording is. I just don't have the money or willingness to buy alot of XRCDs. If you like Jazz, you can get some K2s(the mastering process used for XRCD) for about half the price of XRCDs.

While I believe that some people don't like the Chesky sound philosophy, on my home system, the Raven sounds great, but I haven't heard it on my headphone system or consciously dissected it for flaws.

Reynman, the Rebecca Pidgeon (The Raven) SACD is ok for quality but I don't really like her singing that much. I like Jacintha much better.

Arnett, I didn't notice the drummer screwing up. I'll have to take the CD over to one of my friends who is a drummer and have him check it out and see if he notices the mistakes.

I think the lyrics, vocals, and music on the title-track of The Raven are exceptional. It was written by David Mamet, btw.

What kind of music does Jacintha perform?

From a speaker review.
I should say this right here, if you are one of those musically devolved audiophiles that listens to those tepid jazz babes (you don't have to raise your hand and identify yourselves) this speaker is the one for you. Nothing will make these vapid bitches sound more breathy and sexed up. In fact, no speakers I know of makes late night cocktail jazz sound more libidinous than the xxx xxx do.

BenG,

Have you compared a recording on XRCD to the same on K2? Just curious. I have Bill Evans Village Vanguard on XRCD, and Waltz for Debby on K2, but haven't compared the sound quality yet since I just got the K2 disc this week. Probably indistinguishable, but we'll see. I guess the only difference would be in the manufacturing of the CD. I've got to admit I really like the XRCD packaging, but it can't be worth an extra $15 all on its own.

There has been an ongoing debate on this -- K2 vs. XRCD. I have never done direct comparisons of the same albums. The main difference between the two systems are in manufacturing tolerances and different mastering engineers. There is also a newer XRCD2 process that is a refinement of the orginal XRCD process.

I have compared a couple older OJCs vs. their newer K2 counterparts(Miles - Cookin' and Wes Montgomery - Incredible Jazz Guitar) and the the K2s were clearly better and easily worth the few dollars extra.

I have several K2s and a few XRCDs and they seem to share similiar characteristics. Alot of them were recorded during the same time period and from the same handful of labels. My opinion -- the XRCDs seem to go the extra mile in transparency and purity.
