im looking at some cheap iem's, and i will either buy the "j-jays" or the "denon ah-c551"

any comments about either one?

my main concerns are:

1. creating a good seal
2. blocking out noise

Aren't the denons cheaper? Anyway, denons are not supposed to have super-great seal/noise-blocking. But jays are supposed to require filter replacement, which is annoying. How about neither? Etymotic ER6i? I'm getting some 551s myself, but that's cos the Etys are super expensive in NZ.

Are you sure you don't mean the Denon AH-C351 rather than 551 ... ?

The j-Jays and C551 aren't really comparable as the C551 cost about twice as much (or they do in the UK anyway) where as the j-Jays and C351 are about the same level.

If you can get the C551s then there's no comparison. They sound great for the price.

The j-Jays are a really comfortable set of buds, but sound rubbish.

You're partially right, I was thinking of q-jays or d-jays or one of the other -jays, anyway. That said, the j-jays are US$65, right? And the 351s are $50 (but $30 on Amazon now), and the 551s are usually $90 but $50 on Amazon now. So right now, it's 551 hands down. That said, I hear RE2s are better, but they're $99 and I don't see cheap ones around.

Erm...headroom is j-jays on special, but you have to call for a price. We've deviated from the OP's questions about sound/noise-blocking to sound quality/price...sorry about that. That said, maybe you'd like to re-consider your criteria?
