Don't worry about it, a lot of people have done this, myself included. Have you tried resetting it? Press the clicker and menu buttons simultaneously and hold them for a few seconds. Have you tried opening up iTunes? If iTunes recognizes the iPod, then you should be able to eject from within iTunes. If that doesn't work, you could try restarting your computer to see if Windows XP will recognize the iPod. If all else fails, just unplug the damn thing. It really shouldn't be a problem, worst thing that could happen is the data gets corrupted and you have to load your music again. Hope this helps.

Okay I don't know if I'm being paranoid, but I can hear/feel a whirring sound when a new album loads, however there is no static (from what I can hear). Basically I hear a whirring sound, then a sound as if the head is moving to another platter (if that makes sense

). It does not seem to be coming from the headphone jack. In quiet environments and if the voulme is less than half, I can hear it.
Should I let the 'Apple Geniuses' deduce if there is a problem?

Don't worry, you are just a little paranoid.
The Ipod can take a lot of abuse.
The whirring sound is just the hdd loading.
When your music library becomes larger, it will occur more often.

That whirring means you broke the dilithium crystals. I'll buy it from you for super cheap and help you out...

But it's so damn loud. I only put 1 gig on it, so you're telling me it going to get more frequent. I'll check it out with friends when they come over, maybe their iPod's do the same

Hey, you are wrong here.
I got a MD psychology and used to work as a psychologist (many many years ago; mad people are okay, co-workers are not).
People here are not paranoid, they are anal-retentive, good american english shortens that to tightass.

Or you might have an internal neurotic conflict, usually characterized by a conscious and an an unconscious pole. On the conscious side, you might feel the ipod is the right choice because everone cool got one, on the other hand the thing feels cheap and sound rotten.
Emperors clothes conflict.

Nope basically I got an iPod because of the price...actually i was leaning towards the iRiver unti I realised a little thing called 'Academic Discount'. Realised I could do without the radio (with the state of radio today) and recording.

Anyway I've seen pretty 'uncool' people having iPods

Now to spray-paint my px100's white so they can match my iPod

I'd say he's overloaded the plasma regulators, and the Jeffries tube converters are only flowing at about 95% or so (give or take inducer fluctuation at the junction rails). I, too will buy it from you for say, $50.00 (including shipping??!!)
