alright i tried to install itunes 5 and it installs with some errors

then i click to open it. a pop up box comes up and says you need quicktime 7.0

so i try to reinstall itunes and no go again

so then i just download quicktime 7 by itself and i get a 1402 error followed by like a 1603 fatal error

i googled it and found that something is most probably wrong wiht my registry but i have not found a way to fix it

im on win xp btw

It seems there are several people having problems on Windows with the new QT. Can't be much help, but you're not alone. New iTunes seems to be snappier, but there are evidently some install bugs.

I had issues also. Try restarting your computer and installing itunes again. Some parts of the install program never closed, so I had to force it to quit and retry.

Yes, iTunes 5 needs to be installed with QuickTime 7.

iTunes uses the QuickTime engine.

I have had zero problems installing and using iTunes 5/QT7 on a WinXP SP2 machine.

If you can do so, I'd recommend setting up a new C: drive partition with a new, clean copy of WinXP SP2 and try installing iTunes 5.

A disk imager (Norton Ghost, Disk Image, etc.) is useful for reinstalls.

To fix registry errors you need a utility such as Norton Utilities, TuneUp Utilities, System Mechanic, etc.

yup im using winamp right now...

i cant uninstal quicktime/itunes cuz they are not fully installed so they dont show up in the add/remove programs

also its a problem with the registry because i cannot delete a quicktime registry key that is causing the problem

My install got stuck on that bonjour service part because Mcafee kept denying it access to the internet. I let it go on line once and it finished the install. The first time I started Itunes 5 it asked for access again and I denied it. Everything works fine (knock on wood).
