I need advice on how to set the 'Importing' option in iTunes. The music I import comes from regular CDs. I wish to have the highest sound quality while being able to use other media players if need be (I am reluctant to choose a format that would lock me in with one company). I listen to my music either with my iPod 6th generation or with my laptop with a Headroom Total Bithead (I am hoping to get a Headamp Pico). So far I have imported my CDs into iTunes using the 'WAV Encoder' with a 'Sample Size' set to 16-bit and a 'Sample Rate' set to 48 KHz.
Should I use a sample rate of 44.1 KHz instead? I understand 44.1 KHz is the sample rate used in CDs so should I shoot for faithful reproduction (44.1 KHz) or artificial potential enhancement (48 KHz)? Should I alter other import parameters? Should I be using a different player altogether. I was wondering if someone had gone through the exercise of comparing these options and figured out which actually sounds better.
