It takes my setup a while to "warm up"... is this normal?

I've found if I just turn on my amp, pop in a CD, and hit play, the resulting sound is absolute rubbish. Distored bass and a severe lack of the smooth, airy sound that I love out of this setup. Give it anywhere from several tracks to a CD or two, and the bass is much tighter, and the carefree, light sound is delightful. I know that with tube and/or electrostatic setups, best sound is frequently achieved after a warmup period; does the same go for solid state?

Go to bed, first guy, not Seattle guy, but Seattle guy to. (guy = sexless implication)

I noticed the same thing both with the Stax SRM-001 and SRM-313 amps, which are solid state. But, this isn't entirely a valid observation, since the "warm-up" in an electrostatic setup has more to do with charging the capacitors to full power rather than warming up the amp, which usually takes about an hour for the 001 (though bass keeps improving with continuous warmup, and sounds really good after 3-4 hours or so), and up to 8 hours for the 3030, with noticeable sonic improvements at each step. Basically, I just keep the 3030 on, unless I know that I won't be listening any time soon.

But, that doesn't answer your question, so, just rambling
