Is your Grado corroded?

I received my Grado 225i new last week, bought from Amazon.com.

When I look at the holed metal shield (in front of the speaker) through the nylon mesh, there is something like a dead cockroach on it, after examining it carefully, this trace would be a trace of corrosion. I use daylight to look at it more carefully and I see similar - but lighter traces on both sides left and right, they cover around 40% of the metal's surface.

I wonder if my sweat would corrode the metal shield just after a few hours of use?! (although this is almost impossible because it's cold now and I'm not a sweaty type!).

I call Grado to ask if this is a manufacturing defect. The lady on the phone said that it's normal, Grado is good for sound and does not care about the look

!

I don't think that a $219 headphone should have this problem and considered "normal".

Grado's owner, please examine your can with daylight, at around 45 degree angle to see if yours also has corrosion traces like mine. Please advise.

Thank you very much.

Huh? And, What? There is Western New York (upstate). What the hell is "West New York, NJ"? If you live in Jersey, just say so.

There is a town in Jersey called West New York. Nice place to live, and awesome views of NYC. I almost moved there after college.

I also see no corosion in my grados. Ranging from HP-2 to today.

Perhaps you simply see the wires looping around in teh cups? the ground wire is blue. (and there are 2 of them on the newer grados!)

I would send them back for a replacement, cosmetic or not, a defect is a defect, and is not acceptable, if you purchsed it brand new, there should be no defects at all. That answer you received is simply stupid...period...
So becasue a car runs fine, it doesn't need to look good, so you can hand brush paint it, and attach the parts with screws facing out...

Immagine that, a MOT talking about a non represented manufacturer's products in a VERY negative light.

I understand how this could happen. There appears to be some reasonable cause for confusion.

Since no MOT except for you discusses other MFR's products you had no way to know it was not allowed.

Quick, tell the world it was a joke and you were obviously kidding like last time.

I've opened up my share of Grados. I've never seen any corrosion. Maybe these Grados of yours were improperly stored as inventory. If you're not happy, I'd hit the vendor up for a refund while you can. Dead cockroaches aren't part of anybody's bliss.
