The price is certainly right for this receiver/ cd/ dvd combo with 1-bit/ 5.6Mhz sampling. The only question is whether this is DSD compatible. The price is considerbaly down at this website from the previous retail of ~1000 bucks to a more interesting $286. I am thinking of a source upgrade, and was wondering if this was a good option.

Any ideas?

But some places have cited that the 5.6 Mhz sampling in this family of systems is converted to DSD. In fact I thought I read elsewhere that DSD is sony's new technology based on a 1-bit system with extremely high sampling frequencies.

The SD-EX111 samples the audio signal at a very high rate of 5.6MHz using a 7th-order delta sigma modulation A/D converter. The sampled data is converted to the same DSD format used for SACD. The converted data is then sent to the 1-bit digital amplifier, which results in a great sounding system for under $500.

The SD-EX111 is dsd compatible. It will accept an sacd signals analog output, and even will accept raw dsd data from sharps new sacd player. Remember that the output from a current sacd player is analog, they dont have digital sacd/ dsd outputs. The unit you are asking about converts all the analog signals it receives(cd/dvd/ mp3) to the digital dsd format, then is amplified. The particular unit you are inquiring about does not accept sacd input from what I can tell. I made the assumption you wanted to know if it played sacds.

Thank you for the clarification. The wording on a lot of this is so arcane for a non-techie like me that I wanted to clarify before buying something.
