Sorry for asking such a newbie question...
I've just received my AT AD700, which is supposed to be brand new.
However when I got it, it's obvious that the package has been opened before. The contents have been taken out of the packaging before.
Also I'm very suspicious that they have been worn at least once before.

Is that normal and acceptable or should I complain about it?
Thanks.

it could be one of the drawbacks of a good return policy. often shops take back stuff that a buyer did not like, but what do they do with these? cant throw it away can they?
If you had a good price and it feels like new, I'd say just keep it. Shippingcosts and waiting alone will be more trouble than a pair that's worn maybe once.

Don't send it back. Ask the seller for a partial refund for an error in the description. It just means that someone tried them and didn't like them. It dosen't mean you won't or that they are damaged.Plus you might not have to wait for 100-200 hrs or "Burn-in"

It's so hard to auditon good cans now days. Especially out in the "Boonies". The only way to try them is to buy them and return them.and as long as they are clean not damaged, your better off trying to get 20.00 or so refund.
I recently got a pair of Senn hd650's that the seller claimed was "Factory Sealed" and were obviously open box but still like new. I didn't even bother asking for a partial refund.
They're Great !.

Email the seller asking if they might have shipped you "used" headphones.
Because the headphones did not appear as new because of the "open" packaging.
New Audio Technica ATH-AD700s can sell for around $107.
What price did you pay?

If its imported it might have been opened to be inspected etc... by the customs. Some shops do that even? to check the contents to make sure everything is there? hehe

shouldn't there be some tape or label with "opened by customs" on it?

otherwise, selling stock like that should be discounted, as 'B' stock. but times are hard for retailers, so the 'forgot' to do this?

Not acceptable imo.
But contact the seller first, and don't claim a return right away. They may be willing to work with you and refunding some of the money, allowing for a possible great deal.

Sounds like they might've sold you a demo one.

When I was buying my current Grados, at the store, the guy opened the box and showed them to me. They had a slight blemish, so I asked for another one. You know which ones he tried to sell of as quick as possible as soon as I left..

If I were you, I would send them back. Part of buying something new is getting something new.
