Is there REALLY anything better than 250-80 for comfort/game/portable/slightly amped?

Greetings!!

Well, I've been off on other forums learning about the joys of overclocking, firewalls, and such.

First...

My gift to you for the "question asked before" thread.

...and now the crux of the matter.

I'm very tired of dragging my 580's from here to there and back. They are open. They are not very portable. They are fragile and weak, though I'm comfortable with that. Originally these were meant for gaming. Despite warnings from all, I went to Chicago with the intention of picking up some 570's. Next to those were the heralded 580's. Half a year later, they changed me from a bassheaded, pop song listening noob to a classical/jazz fanatic.

So, what do you guys think? The 250's are comfy, tho a lil' tight on my ears. They're best with gaming/trance. They rock out of a portable and will sound fine (to me) out of my klipsch headphone port. They are closed. The cable's on one side. Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.

Ok, I'll hit the send button.

ATI is your friend.

although i haven't heard the 250-80, i don't think you could go wrong with A500. they have a very wide soundstage (about as wide as the 580s, although not as deep), and quite an 'energetic' sound (if that makes any sense

)

hope that helps

Hey Jodiuh, im in sorta of jam.

Figuring youre a big trance/gamer fella, and im a big trance/gamer fella. I was stuck between the DT250-80s and the Sony V6 and whatever anyone else recommends.

Care to elaborate with some more opinions? (BTW: im using a TBSC card if that makes a difference)

Xecter,

I've not heard the ath-a500's nor the ultasone 650's. I have heard the Beyer's and the V6's. I prefer the Beyers. I don't really know why I posted this, lol! I think I just wanted to be reassured (calling all Beyer fans). The Beyers are a very easygoing phone. They are comfy and I will have them!!

Now if someone would just buy my xbox and stuff...

and now my gift [Magneto Voice]to you, my friend[/Magneto Voice]:

THESE be my cans BEFORE the HD-580s

Are you scared?

LMAO

Anyhow, back to the topic, there is ALWAYS something better, in my opinion, and you simply cannot have it unless you are in the company that is developing *it* (be it a processor/videocard/headphones/whatever). Try to be happy with what you have, but as if you couldn't guess, that's hard with all that OTHER attracitve stuff out there...

thus I'm awaiting the day when I can touch the DT770s

The Ultrasone FI-650 sacrifices a bit of comfort for better everything else to me. (I have only heard it, not owned it, that's my disclaimer) It's circumaural but got my ears a bit. Superior isolation to DT250. Folds into quite a small bundle.
The Sennheiser HD25 is better at everything if you like bass and are a dance music listener. There's extended highs as well and it's probably more efficient. Supraaural fit may be a problem for some, but it's actually quite comfortable. Isolation is very good. Doesn't fold like the 250 but is less bulky.

So the answer is Yes, and the choice depends on what you want. I would like to buy the HFI-650 eventually, I am on my second set of HD25, but the DT250-80 is not up for re-consideration.

Call me a sissy, but I can't handle pleather. My ears ache and bake. I'm going to do some readin' on the Ultrasones here, but I just wanted to clarify some things.

Comfort~XTENDED .'s of time = No vice grip...unless I can jam a book in between it, No pleather...unless the beyer or some other "velour" pads would fit, single sided cord

Game~positional sound = closed, stereo imaging over "crossfeed", BASS (colored), no pronounced or harsh trebbie!!

Portable/slightly amped~nonjuicehungry = will it sing from a true pdcp/pdmp3

Looks~unique = for me...not necessary ugly or pretty, but "that-looks-different

Now...

What fits the overfat bill??

Beyer 250-80
Ultrasone 650

ATH-A500

other??

Jod

P.S. I CANNOT express enough how specific some of you get!!

"Klipsch port ruins stereo imaging"

"Must have an amp"

This is not me. My ears are easily satisfied...it's my eyes that I have trouble with!

Jodiuh, you were one of the main people to get me to reconsider and get HD-580s (ummm that and the outstanding price newegg had them at
very_evil_smiley.gif
) but now I've been thinking DT770s forever and you're making me look at the 250s ... GRRRRRR...

stop it Jodiuh, you keep givin' me all these ideas

Ultrasone HFI-650!

Grip is part of how these headphones isolate, it's what they're designed to do. It's not like the HFI-650 is a vice but is has a fair amount of grip. Kickass isolation though.

The pads on the HFI-650 aren't like the pleather you find on the V6. It's rather tough and hard comparatively. I do know that the DT880 velour pads fit on the HFI-650. Several people here have done this mod I believe, though I'm not sure if anyone found some material to cover the drivers with.
