I'm merely making this thread out of interest but I'm just curious. I own the medium black foamies right now, but is there anything that I can get that would provide me with even more superior isolation when I'm on say, a plane trip or on a noisy train out in another country? I'm doing some traveling this summer so I'm wondering what I can get as an added precaution for when isolation is needed most.

Is there anything that isolates better than Shure Black "Olive" Foamies?

Custom tips would, also, I think the difference between the Black olives was negligible compared to the tri-flages. But they both would be fine for train+airplane use.
I find Comply tips provide a little more isolation than the Shure tips, but not a lot. Normally I wear Comply "slim" tips, but if I switch to standard-sized Comply tips I can get more isolation still, at the expense of comfort.
I have three sets of custom eartips for my Etys, all very snug-fitting, and they do not provide me more isolation than the Shure blacks or Complys. YMMV but the claim that customs provide superior isolation appears not to be true for everybody. (It's probably relevant that I'm using these with Etys, which seat deeper in the ear canal with flanges or foams than the custom tips go. Other brands that don't seat as deep may well show customs to greater advantage.)

Interesting. I guess the Shure Olives are my best bet. The isolation is superb, mind you, but I guess I wanted to see if anything isolates any more.

I agree that standard Comply tips offer the tightest seal, better than Medium black Shures. The Complys seem a bit less pliant, so they are maybe produce more pressure against the ear canal opening. But they are a tad uncomfortable for the average ear size. Having said that, I do use them on planes, trains, etc., and they work great. Just take a set of each and see which one does it best.

I feel that the opposite is true. In my experience, the Shure black foamies are significantly tougher and more rubbery, and give a much, much tigher fit. Shure foamies also last much longer without wearing out.

Using Comply, black foamy, and triple flange here.
Shure black foamy=best isolation
Then Comply.
The triple flange.
Have done MANY hours of listening to come to this conclusion. Shure black foamys' are the best, followed by triple-flange if I have to do lots of removal/insertion...

Westone has them, but just Google Comply tips and there are other spots to buy.
Another good spot...http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/cofotipeco1p.html
