Is the Mx4 the most detailed sounding headphone under $3000?
Which headphone around 3k is not one of the most detailed for you then?A correction and the answer. Yes, MX4 is one of the most detailed headphones around/under $3K! You may want to bound your question to really define what do you mean by detailed. For some detail means midrange/treble details, and for some others, it means instrumentation separation. For your own information, LCD-X is virtually almost as detailed. There are also Sennheiser HD800S, Hifiman HE1K, Focal Stelia/Clear and so on depending on your definitions of detail.
I'm trying to get the point across the OP that if the amazing sounding (based on the title) is only details, I am trying to say that there are more options than MX4 around $3K or even at lower costs. Also there are many aspects of details to continue on some interesting conversations on this thread. This should allow more engaging and appropriate discussions on many good attributes of MX4 and certain things the OP should be aware if the OP is considering to make a purchase.Which headphone around 3k is not one of the most detailed for you then?
OPs question is a bit strange.I'm trying to get the point across the OP that if the amazing sounding (based on the title) is only details, I am trying to say that there are more options than MX4 around $3K or even at lower costs. What is your point for asking this question? It's difficult to read the tone from a very short question. If you are just curious, I would say Rosson Audio Design Rad-0 is fairly detailed and really smooth without being harsh but MX4 has a slight advantage on treble details at near $3K price tag to my ears. Rad-0 excels in other aspects of details, just not in the treble when directly compared to MX4. I am not saying MX4 is better in all aspects, but subjectively speaking on a specific aspect to answer your question. If you compare other aspects of details, there are other headphones that offer more details such as in midrange or instrument separations/soundstage. The OP is also from US which means MX4 can be bought on Black Friday sale for $1.5K to $1.75K directly from Audeze or as a used pair from US market for the nearly same price, where the discussions of this thread may lead to compare with comparable options.
However, without really knowing the OP's real intent(s) for asking the original question (may be OP had already purchased MX4 and wants some assurance that MX4 is amazing from the community or trying to figure out best "amazing" headphones to buy at $3K range), I rather not bring out negative aspects of MX4 unless it is appropriate for this thread. FYI, I think MX4 is really good and amazing headphones (especially considering the price at the US market) and I also rather not make a blanket statement saying ALL headphones are detailed at $3K range.
Sorry, I didn't include Focal Utopia and Stax SR009, SR009S since they cost $3990, $3825, $4325, respectively new. I was only quoting few examples at around $3K new or below to encourage further conversations. Utopia is easily one of the most detailed headphones at $4K range, where it confidently competes with the higher end models such as Audeze LCD-4/4z even some Abyss models at $4K range.OPs question is a bit strange.
I'm asking because i want to know what you compare those headphones with. When you list these as the most detailed around the 3k mark i wonder ofcourse which headphones are less detailed then.
I see you owned the Utopia for example. When you say those are the most detailed you basically say also that the Utopia isn't among them so i think a reference is always good.
I'd say for example the most detailed headphones in this range are the Utopia and SR009 but i never heard the MX4.
