Hello everyone, a quick question here.I am stuck on one detail of the singlepower extreme. Is the platinum upgrade worth the extra cost? Or is the returns slight? What can I expect from going platinum? Thanks

I own a bunch of SP amps including a stock Extreme and one just short of being a Platinum Extreme. I love the sound quality of both. I also love their versatility with any headphone. But, for value I like the stock Extreme with a little extra spent on getting some tube adapters for the gain tube position; specifically the ECC type #1 and ECC type #2 adapters.

Better tubes make a huge difference in all the SP amps. Moreover, the ability to fine tune the sound character with this amp using the large number of tube choices available with the adapters is unparalleled. Plus, because most of the tubes you use in these adapters are very inexpensive the adapters could even save you money vs using only expensive 6sn7gt's. Although, tuberolling is so much fun you probably wont save much.

If you dont mind spending the cash and really want something more upscale than the stock Extreme .... check into the latest version that has an outboard power supply. I am adding one to my (almost) Platinum Extreme.

Almost Platinum .... I have to admit that round Plitron power transformer does look so cool.
