Is the only thing keeping a sub amp from being full-range the preamp section?

Is that where the Xover is? I have a couple of sub amps with fried preamp sections and was wondering if it would be worth tinkering around with these as full-range amps.

The amp section shouldn't care what signal it sees. The crossovers are either done in the pre or on the input to the sub. Model number and brand would help.

They're Proficient S66 subs. Originally they powered two 6" "subs" (I call them bass extenders) per sub in a sealed enclosure. Really nice, tight bass. The amps have some big ol toroidal transformers on them.

I bought new amps for them and was just wondering if this would make a fun project or if it's a waste of time.
