Just for curiosity's sake, I've heard the bose triports get bashed around here a lot, but mostly for their price. Are they at all redeemable in terms of sound quality?

Let me put it another way: if they were being offered for $50, would they be worth that?

They... also sound bad?

Trust me, don't LISTEN TO WHAT THEY SAY! Their marketing techniques are powerful, but the curse of headfi is even STRONGER than that!

Trust me, I found the HD570s similar to the Bose TriPorts, and the HD570s can be found for under 100 dollars in most places. In fact, probably under 80.

You don't want either headphone, however, becuase they are both boring, unballanced, unexciting, and cheaply-built.

I wouldnt pay more than $35 for one. to my ears they are all mids, no bass or sub bass.

IMHO a koss portapro will pound the living snot out of em'.... for that price you can get a porta and a moderate amplifier.

$50 would be a pretty good price, but the problem isn't the price only, it is also that the headband is defective. It is very easy to snap, or more precisely the joint between the headband and the sliding earcup is very easy to snap, and it happens with casual use in a fairly large percentage of owners. That, in my mind, means that they shouldn't be sold at all, until the problem is fixed.

But, if they were better built, then for $50 they wouldn't be too bad, as they'd compete decently well with other closed models available. They are very comfy, and do look very nifty as well.

Just to reiterate the words of others in layman's terms, An infant could probably break the triports in two with a stuffed turtle. I've tried them at best buy, ugly and crack-alicious.

But for $50 . . . it's possible. Not saying I would, but if I were ever forced to by the bose 5-0, probably not gonna lose sleep over it.

$40 would be ideal. Had a chance to get them for $75 once and didn't.

Twice now over a couple years I slowly came to the conclusion the Triports 'horrible' sound is probably greatly over-exaggerated (like many things) here on Head-Fi. Then I go into a store and listen to them again and cringe.

I don't know, I like them better than the PX200s or MX500s... and they're comfortable.
Easier to come up with a short list of what I like, than the longer one of what I don't.

Biggest problem I have with Bose Triports besides their high price and so so sound is their build quality. I don't think they have a build quality worth $50. IMO I think they have a build quality worth about $45-$40. Sound quality doesn't matter if the cans aren't built to last.

I demoed them at Best Buy a week ago.

"I thought they sounded pretty good."

I am going to take the advice of countless esperienced Head-fiers...and not buy them.

Going against my own intuition in favor of the knowledge of the masses may seem ...whoreish...but I truest 'em.

I'd buy them for $50 though.

And thats all I have to say about that.

They may beat the snot out of the triports in mids and highs, but the triports have much better base. As for the flimsy headband problem, I never had that problem. Mine are still very strong and sturdy. yes I would buy them for 50$, but thats just my opinion.
