Is the EMU 0404 worth almost 3 times the price of the 0202?

I ask this because the cheapest I can find the 0404 is £140 / $280, where as I can get an EMU 0202 imported from America for just over $100. So, is the 0404 really worth the price?

I'll only be using it for listening to musis, it'll be computer > EMU > Denon D2000's. I might throw an amp in between the EMU and Denon's at some point if I am not satisfied with the EMU's amp.

I know the 0202 isn't as good as the 0404, but is it 3x worse? Will I be able to hear a significant difference if I go with the 0404?

Thanks

PS - I've searched, but I couldn't find any definitive answers as to whether it was worth paying more for the higher model.

Why don't you just import the EMu 0404 from America instead?

It's $154 at PCSuperDeals. oink.

The reason for that is because that site charges an extremely laughable $172 to ship to the UK.

And no, it's not a subtotal of $172 for the EMU + shipping. The $172 is for the shipping alone. -_-

jajajajaja. Sorry. I tried using the shipping calculator but I didn't know any valid UK zip codes. ^^'

Haha, it's ok. Thanks for trying.

I don't understand why it's so expensive to ship from america to the UK. I shipped a 250 gram item to the US and it only cost $14. So surely it shouldn't be much more to ship a 3lb item.

Not if you are using it for listening only. The main difference is the 48v phantom power for microphones in the 0404usb.

Thanks. I may consider it then.

For around $200 i think its worth it, you'll get a top of the line DAC and a stronger/better headamp in return.

For the price you'll also get ALOT more features, which you might or might not use. For example, you can use the 0404 as a independent pre-amp for balanced active speakers, you can use it as a 'portable' amp, it is feed through a 12V DC adapter, and much more.

Yes, if I could get it for $200 then I would no doubt jump on the opportunity. But I cannot for the life of me find it cheaper than $280, which is too much at the moment.

Anyone else know of other US shops that ship internationally for a reasonable amount?

Thanks

It's like $60 for the cheapest option on there. :[

Pretty good I suppose compared to some others. But $260 is still pretty steep.

I'll try to help you out Scottyyy. I have several US shopping comparison sites at my fingertips. I'll need a valid postal code though.

You know what? I'll just give you links:

ebay.
pricegrabber.
bizrate
reseller's ratings.
next tag

They should let you enter a valid postal code to tell the shipping costs. Froogle and Yahoo Shopping are probably the best sites to search the more obscure stores but they don't let you enter a zip code to verify shipping costs, unfortunately.

here are the links anyway:
froogle.
yahoo shopping.

Doh, I just sent you a PM before I read this. Disregard it if you want.

Thanks for the links, I will have a search.

Gah. It seems that some of them don't like UK postal codes. Sorry about that.

Try Ebay perhaps?
