I'm finally making the plunge and buying a pair of enthusiast headphones, but I don't really know where to start. I've found that the Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro headphones can be an excellent studio pair according to some, yet for every good thing I hear about them there seems to be a bad thing about it as well.

If anyone owns or has owned a pair of DT 1770 Pro headphones, I'd love to hear some opinions on it. And if it's not that good of a pair, I'd appreciate any recommendations. I'm mainly going to be listening to music and other media on it, and I'll be using it with my computer. If it's important to know, I own a pair of JBL LSR305 Monitor Speakers. I'm looking for closed headphones preferably beneath $300-350, but the budget is flexible.

Thanks in advance! If there's anything else you need to know, I'll reply and edit as needed.

It really depends on the type of sound you want and if you require a closed back. I own a dt1770 and I really enjoy them, but some models will have bass rattling when producing deep sub bass at high volumes.
The dt1770 in overall sound signature is u-shaped, its greatest strength is the bass response which can hit deep and hard without sounding bloated. The mids/vocals are a little laid back with a hollow sound, they don't sound bad for vocals, just presented in a different manner. The hollow presentation in the mids really helps present the sound with a wider perceived sound stage, the soundstage is pretty impressive for a closed back but of course it cannot compete with great open backs in the same price range. The treble is slightly emphasized and makes everything sound clear and vibrant but they don't reach faitguing levels. If this is the type of sound you are looking for and you require a closed back, I wouldn't have any problem recommending them
