Is the Auditor a good match for the HD800?

I'm looking for a good Solid State amp for my HD800.  Right now my top choices are the SPL Auditor and the Lehmann Black Cube Liner which are said to be neutral and fast sounding amps and can be purchased for under $1000 used.  My DAC is the HRT Streamer II+ with BitPerfect from my iMac.

I didn't think so, when I tried them together. I wrote about my experience here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/511201/review-beyerdynamic-t1-vs-sennheiser-hd800/105#post_6985524

I've heard the Lehmann BCL as well, but not with the HD800, and that was a long time ago so I can't really offer much on it now. That may or may not be a good pairing.

I'd recommend a DIY M3 amp for the HD800 for <$1K amps. There's currently one in the FS forums here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/579027/m-3-w-o11-power-supply-built-by-ybm-audio-11-23-price-drop

Or maybe just save towards a B22 which is another good option.  The downside of DIY amps are the crappy looking generic aluminum boxes which they are often housed in.  The auditor has a curved front enclosure and a solid looking volume knob which looks nice.  Can a B22 be found for around $1000?  I dont have the time nor the tools to put it together myself.

There's a finished B22 for sale in the FS forums here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/581371/rockhopper-b-22-note-new-price-as-of-11-22-11-is-975-firm

I highly recommend the B22 for use with the HD800 but ideally you'd want a better source to go with it.

LoL...I posted a similar one in another thread. I can't believe a Rockhopper B22 for only $975 still hasn't sold?

I have the HD800 and BCL. It is a great pairing. I prefer my Leben with the HD800, but that is an entire new price range. But going back the the BCL after the Leben, the BCL still sounds great! So that is pretty good on the the BCL.
