Is PX100 a good match with my Sony MD recorder?

Has anyone used PX100 with any Sony MD portable recorders e.g. R700/R909/N1/R900? I find my my MD recorder MZR900 somehow strange in terms of its headphone out as my Grados sound so thin and lifeless with it. On the other hard, my friend's KSC-35 sounds decent with it. I still really have no idea why Grados sound so crap with it, is that some sort of synegry problem? And if KSC35 sounds good with it, do you think PX100 should perform as good as KSC35 with my MD portable? I am just a bit worried about if PX100 will have good synegry with it due to its bad "relationship" with my Grados. Thanks.

5mw into 16 ohms is not enough to drive Grados, even the supposedly great unamped SR60's in my opinion. The PX100 is an easier drive for your MD's headphone amp. Based on a brief comparison with the KSC-35, I found the PX100 and KSC-35 very similar both in sound and efficicency.

I use PX100 with R909. It has enough power to drive them nicely. Compared to KSC35 the PX100 are warmer, bassier and sound louder due to the fact that they push tighter against your ears. Overall the result is very good. On bass heavy music you may turn the bass to -1

I use the PX100 with my Sony MZ-E505 player and they sound great and not mushy or muted at all. The only thing I don't like about them is the long cord. I wish Sennheiser would make remote friendly short cord headphones.
