i'm buying new parts for my computer and i've been having trouble choosing a motherboard. i currently have an SB Live 5.1 card and will probably use this on my next system.

instead of buying another card for listening to music, i'm wondering if a motherboard (in particular, the albatron k8x890) with an onbaord via envy24pt can be used for playing my music in foobar while the sb live card can be used for games (and probably most other things).

also one another thing, how does my old sb live compare in gaming performance to the onboard envy chip? i ask because if they are almost the same, i'd like to do away with the soundcard for now and free up a pci slot in my system because pci express motherboards have 3 or less of the "regular" pci slots.

any help is appreciated. thanks in advance.

You can use as many sound cards as you have pci slots. You will need => win2k.
Sound quality will ba alot better from your envy chip. Performance is another question. Run some benchmarks to see the difference quake3 for example.
Anyhow the diffrence will not be that big anyhow.
Will be more noticable in cpu limited games such as ut2004.
