I would like to jump the gain up at least 20 dcb but moving the gain above 0 dcb distorts the sound in any player I have tried.
Please advise.

Is it possible to increase the gain using any media player without damaging the sonics?

No, it's not possible.
Why do you need to increase the gain in the media player specifically? You should be able to increase the gain on your amp, computer, phone, what have you instead. If pushing the gain in your player past 0dB is the only way for you to get enough volume then you need a more powerful amp.
