So I got this pair off a friend, cause he prefers the ones with control talk but whatever...

Whenever I listen to a song with bass I get a crackling noise, similar to that when you have (or at least for me) ruined a pair of headphones.

Is this the fault of the track being low quality or that the headphones are ruined?

On another note, what are the BEST affordable, bassy headphones?

Im thinking about the klipsch S4s, but are there any others that are better/bassier in that price range?

It could be a blown driver.

How much did you buy the coppers for? Based on how much you're willing to spend on replacements, Im assuming you didn't pay anywhere near their current price. If it's under $100 there's a high chance they're fake:

This; I'm thinking that it's more likely to be clipping.

 - EQing in a bass boost without adjusting pre-cut to compensate?
 - Does it happen when the volume is low?
 - Do you have access to an amp to test out whether it's just the source clipping?
 - Feel like flogging them off to me cheap? :P

What are you playing them out of?
