is it possible to apply crossfeed through software?

There are various plugins in winamp that will provide you with crossfeed.
Give winamp a try if you haven't. Just do a web search for winamp and you will come up with the website.

IMO the best are:
  1. Crossfeed for both Winamp and Foobar
  2. HeadPlug only for Winamp

Edit: I forgot to mention both of them are not mere stupid crossfeeds but do the full spatial simulation of sound in space around head.

You can easily get crossfeed for whatever media player you're using (I use the foobar2000 crossfeed).

Edit: I can't comment on whether the foobar crossfeed would be 'better' or 'worse' than other crossfeed implementations, maybe someone with better ears can talk about that.

ok just tried it, comparing the foobar plug-in, to meier crossfeed on my ha1mk2. The difference between crossfeed on in foobar is very subtle. Versus the difference between off and high on ha1mk2 is huge.

It's a tiny bit less than the meier low crossfeed setting.

it seems satisfying though, but i prefer meier on high for especially separated recordings, cleans up the instruments beter.

The best software crossfeed by a large margin is Canz3D. It's Mac only though and requires a VST host application. I use it sometimes with Audio Hijack Pro to process live feeds in real-time.

Is there any way to do this when you only use iTunes (for windows)?

I will add that the Xin crossfeed on the newest Supermini seems subtle compared to the included Foobar one called "simple crossfeed" - I think that was the name of it. Once enabled, music immediately feels like it stretches 1-2 ft. away from the drivers of px100.
